Understanding the role of project management in today's business environment

Project management is an essential part of businesses and industries in order to advance ahead and add value to products. Project management enables companies to innovate, plan strategically, and for the economy to progress. The important parts of projects are often values such as team working, planning, innovation, time and budget management, and leadership. In the modern society, some projects can be pharmaceuticals (inventing new drugs), IT solutions (new technologies), energy and environment (other sources of energy such as solar), and military (new weapons and machines). If the team do not work together toward one goal then it would be a waste of resource.

Project may not necessary produce the results that you want. It is often done through trial and error to see if it can be improved to ultimately get the results. However, due to limited resources, sometimes a project is given up or unable to be continued. As surveys shows, many successful entrepreneurs do not actually plan ahead and formalize a plan for a new venture. It is done through whatever resources may be available to them and utilise them fully.
Does project really help the company?
In the case of Clorox, Mary Jo Cook and Suzanne Sengelmann created a need for a “green” detergent that avoids many petrol chemicals used in products of that time. The problems faced were that the demand for environmental friendly products was not yet realised and they were also not sure about the effectiveness of the detergent. The solution to this was, together with the limited time and resource they have, they experimented with different solutions and looked at other similar products available in the market. They also asked for voluntary help from people with same interests and did a testing on a small group of people.
