1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background of the Study Unemployment occur when a person is available to work and seeking work but currently without work. The amount of unemployment is usually measured using the unemployment rate, which is defined as the percentage of those in the labor force who are unemployed. The number of unemployed persons in Malaysia increased from 382900 persons in 2011 to 396300 persons in 2012. Unemployed persons in Malaysia are reported by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia. In Malaysia, unemployed persons are individuals who are without a job and actively seeking to work. For many years, manufacturing had been the strongest sector in the country and the main contributor towards employment creation until the …show more content…
Students are unconcerned about their future path after they graduates. They are earnest during their study without knowing or realizing the purpose of their study. Supposedly, during four year of study, students are preparing themselves to grab the opportunity to be chosen by the company for working with them. Unfortunately, students are only concerned with the results compared to understand the knowledge itself. Students are also lack of awareness toward job opportunity of their field of study. Excellent student in the university also not promised to be employable if they have poor soft skills. 1.3 Purposes of the Study In an effort to bring awareness to the importance of students prepare themselves before becoming a graduate; UPM has prepared a number of programs to help students, there may be a reliable response from the students toward their preparedness for getting a job and their awareness of the importance skills other than academic achievement. Taking into account about this issue, we agreed to investigate and study about the student preparedness and their awareness of importance skills that needed for getting a job. The purpose of the study described in this report was to assess the final year engineering students’ preparation for working life and to assess their employability self-confidence. 1.4 Objectives of the Study The objectives of the study are: • To study the preparedness in getting a job among UPM engineering
The unemployment rate measures the percentage of the total work force that is unemployed and actively seeking employment during the previous month. Unemployment is termed as a major health of the economy and every country tries to reduce unemployment rate for sustainable growth. It is referred as the number of unemployed workers divided by the total civilian labour force. Every economy tries to ensure full employment in the country but there is the existence of natural rate of unemployment though nation tries hard to obtain full employment in the country.
Unemployment refers to when an individual is actively seeking work and is aged 15 years or over, but is unable to find work (not hired). There are many causes and effects of unemployment that result in different actions being made by the Australian government through their use of both monetary policy as well as fiscal policy.
Unemployment is currently measured in the United States by counting those who "do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior four weeks, and are currently available for work" (Leonhardt). This means that a great deal of people are not counted as unemployed because they are discouraged and have not looked for work in the past four weeks. Or, the person was injured in some way and they are "not currently" available for work. This does not mean that the people in either of these groups do not actually wish to find work, but it does mean that they are not counted because of an archaic system that has been used by
Every college student is concerned about his or her academic future, especially nowadays in times of the economic crisis. College students are desperate for experience that might distinguish them later from other job applicants and improve their chances of getting their
The unemployment rate has dramatically increased over the last several months. This increase has created many complications for the American people. Although the United States economy has created over 7 million jobs, there is still a long way to go until the economy is back on track.
Lack of proper career planning is attributed to poor performance of graduates. Moreover, lack of on-the-job training lead to poorly trained graduates who lack expertise to deliver in the expected industry. Therefore, a university graduate is expected to earn a degree that should translate to higher work opportunities and pay. For example, the rates of salaries range from $55,000 among engineering majors compared to 30,000 per year for majors in arts, education, and psychology.
Every year, there are thousands of college students that are pushed to attend college, in the sole hope that they will be able to make a respectable living. More than half of these students will not end up completing their 4-year degree. Many students are starting to take a hard look at why they are going to pursue a college degree, to determine if a degree is really their best option. College education is changing for the better, with technical and vocational skills giving less academically inclined students an option. Another reason why students should consider other options is the cost; university boards have been some of the most corrupt and wasteful spenders in the last decade and this will only change with less demand. Finally, the strenuous process of admissions has been continuously overlooked and underestimated by thousands of future students. A traditional 4-year education, that caters to the industry of university, is no longer required to be successful in the job market, and traditional admissions can become an anachronism.
Nowadays, all students should perform well in high school, apply to many universities, and attend the most prestige universities they can get accepted into to eventually end up in thousands of dollars’ worth of debt and a better career for their future families, or at least that’s what students are told. Students are going into higher education because they’ve been told all throughout their school years that college will lead to more happiness, money, and stability after their college careers are over. With the mentality of success and happiness after school has ended, students attending higher education seem ignore what would be coming their way during their college years. Even though there is the common mentality that higher education leads
Whether students think they will get a good job out of college, most of them drop out.
College is supposed to result in a good job. Today many student graduate without having the job skills they need to get a job. Employers are increasing what they want from new graduates and colleges haven’t caught up. Fifty-eight percent of employers in a survey by AAC&U and Hart Research associates say improvements are need for students to have success in entry level jobs. Employers aren’t putting money into training, colleges aren’t keeping up with what is needed and student’s don’t always do everything they can to get the knowledge they need.
To succeed in life, people think they need to have jobs. For good reason too, for people must have jobs to afford the necessary items like car payments, food, rent or a mortgage, etc. Unfortunately, college students do not usually learn the skills that they should know to succeed in the workforce. Some students may think that a degree will automatically obtain them a job, however, in some situations it simply serves as a minimum requirement. Even though some colleges have applicable majors that help, many colleges still have antiquated teaching techniques. I would like to present some things that colleges should improve on, and some that colleges should start doing.
As time goes by, the labor market has undergone a big change. In the past, employers had been looking for employees who were knowledgeable with quality education while nowadays being knowledgeable and enjoying quality education are no longer sufficient to get a decent job anymore. Employees are required to master skills helpful and useful for their career. Because the basic qualifications for workers have been changed, colleges should put more focus on teaching students skills in order to help them achieve success in the later career after graduation. There are some important skills that are supposed to be taught in colleges, such as specialized skills and industry specific
Unemployment refers to the numbers of people not working and can be measured by the claimant count and labour force survey. There are different types of unemployment and each of them requires different policies to overcome them.
College students do not meet current qualifications to land a job in their career of choice. This is because students lack in areas that are not always implemented in college such as critical thinking, problem-solving skills as well as communication and interpersonal skills to name just a few skills college students do not encompass. College students who do have the required skills to take on a professional job after graduation are more likely to be more successful. However, since most students lack in these skill areas, it is assumed by employers that they do not have enough experience to take on a large role resorting to part-time jobs and underemployment. Students must then figure out a way to make the last four years at college count by
Academic success could never be fully measured by degrees alone, but it can include a person’s well-being as well as their mind and certain characteristics about a person that make them unique. This success can be achieved in different ways by these different people with different strengths, but there is the same ultimate goal in sight of each and every student enrolled in college at some point. However, this goal of being successful in not only school but in life, can sometimes turn out to be the opposite of how we plan. Of course, a student can achieve success by earning degrees and still fail in life. Academic success can also be a huge constituent to a students vocational calling in college as young students make a transition into adulthood.
