Harrisburg FFA began in 1969 and continues to arise as an opportunity given to students at Harrisburg High School. When people hear someone talking about FFA they assume that it is all about farming hence the original meaning of the acronym, Future Farmers of America. When asked how he has seen FFA change throughout the years, Mr. Marks who is a teacher at HHS and longtime FFA Advisor stated, “It has changed from all boys who lived on farms and we taught mostly production agricultural topics like crops and livestock. Today, our membership is 95% non-farm students and courses have changed to more leadership, food processing, landscaping and companion animal topics.” The Harrisburg FFA program not only allows students new and exciting experiences
“In 1901, the first agricultural high school program was founded and referred to as “Aggie”.” (Smoot 74) During the nineteenth century agricultural education was being spread in many different ways, but one of the main events that agriculture was expressed through was the county fairs. When this spectacular time if the year comes around the best livestock and crops are brought out by children and adults to be shown and evaluated by the judge that has been chosen by the host of the fair. The chosen judge is not the only one who obtains a chance to judge the best livestock. FFA teams from around the state are asked to come out and appraise the livestock for the livestock evaluation career development event, but the National FFA Organization was not founded until 1928. The National FFA Organization was founded to support agricultural education. (Smoot 74). “You find out some about what the other guys have done” Tom Bandi of Tony shared. (Smoot 74) As the ending section of the nineteenth century came upon the farmers began to express ways that they could diversify their crops and livestock. (“The Science and Technology of
Do you consider yourself to be healthy? Well the definition of health is a combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well being, not merely the absence of diseases. The health triangle consists of three sides; social health, physical health, and mental health. It is very important to have the sides on you health triangle equal. Without all of the sides being equal it will not only affect that one but will throw off the other two as well. To have a healthy health triangle all sides must be the same. This is important because focusing one side of the triangle way more that the other causes you to be unhealthy and changes balance of the other sides. The people you talk too, daily activities and emotions all
The FFA is definetly one of the younger organizations in the U.S. But, throughout the last ten years, it has delivered a tremendous impact to students, teachers, and the nation along with it’s future.
What is FFA? FFA used to stand for Future Farmers of America but that was changed because they wanted the organization to be more than just farm kids. FFA is an extracurricular activity that certain high school and possibly middle schools offer through their agriculture classes. You can become an FFA member if your school offers it by taking an agriculture class and you pay yearly dues to your chapter.
FFA. Future Farmers of America. These four words mean more than cows and plows. It's leadership skills. It's growing as an individual. It's becoming the person you thought wouldn't come of yourself. When you see the national blue and corn gold, (the official colors of FFA) you feel a sense of being welcomed. This organization is not just a group of farm kids that wear jeans and boots
Why FFA? Why Ag? Everyone has their own opinions on FFA or taking a Ag class. I feel my opinion matters, so why not share it with you! I began taking Ag in my 10th grade year of High School. I never thought i would enjoy or want to be known as an FFA member but that all changed soon i stepped foot into the Ag room. I honestly had always thought being an FFA member was stupid and pointless, but Mrs.Morgan (my Ag teacher) changed my mind.
The Health Science Scholars is a program that is full of opportunities for students looking to go into the health field such as myself. I personally have a drive to learn about public health and medicine in general. I have an interest in doing research and I feel as if the Health Science Scholars program will allow me do to so. I specifically have an interest in doing research in mental health, as I know mental illnesses and healthcare are an extremely complex and prevalent issue in today’s world. HSS would give me the opportunity to do research and work closely with faculty members since UT-Austin has an abundance of resources and research projects that do diverse studies such as the Texas Institute for Mental Health. I am interested in learning
I have learned the importance of all members working together to not just gain experience but to take our passions to be a successful team. I want to do the unthinkable and combine my two passions, technology and agriculture to provide a common ground. My plans are to utilize technology to enhance the FFA program through applications, graphic designs, and video production. I want to be an Area Officer to reach out and be a servant leader to not only Area VIII but to tell others the message of the FFA and develop practical and exciting solutions in agriculture through technology. I have already utilized my technology skills in my local chapter by keeping our TV online which tells the members important dates and information. I believe, team work, communication, and positive encouragement are the three components in order to have a successful project. My passion for technology has played a key role and has complimented my efforts in all that I strive for in the FFA. Every competition I have competed in may not have won every time, but I’ve never been defeated in my passion because I was guided by wonderful encouragers of the FFA to never give

The friendships and dedication to the FFA define who we will become and the future we hold, thus presenting the significance of having it in the education field. Nutrition is important to understand because it is a significant contributor to the health and wellness of a human being. Nutrition can determine the weight of a person, the performance of organs and the body’s ability to prevent or accelerate certain diseases. Health and nutrition can be influenced by several factors such as family, friends, peers as well as physical and mental stress. As a young child, the immediate family is the biggest influence on nutrition because they are the first role models and establish the initial habits that the individual will develop. Eating healthy is important for many reasons, it will promote intellectual development in children and adolescents prevent major health problems from developing and ensure a long and healthy life style. How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from getting high doctor bills.
