Uniform Changes In The Navy

People say that change is a good thing, but when talking to Sailors about possibly changing their dress blues and dress whites, Navy Working Uniforms (NWUs) and adding another cold-weather parka to their seabag in the next few years, some will say that modernization is not necessary and too costly. In my 17 years of naval service, I have gone through numerous uniform changes. The dungarees that grandpa used to wear in WWII went to utilities, which then transitioned to the Navy Working Uniform (aka “Blueberries” or “Aquaflage”). There was the phasing out of the working blues (aka “Johnny Cash’s”) and working whites to the Service Uniform (aka “Black and Tans”). Coveralls were added to the Sailors seabag as an underway uniform and PT uniforms
