One hundred years ago the two enemies would go running onto a battlefield with swords and bayonets to fight a war. Now, many years later, we have the capability of firing on an enemy without ever needed to get up close. You can literally be miles away and still be able to attack. Technology has come a long way since the early days of the military. Some things are as simple as the uniforms while other things like aircrafts are much more complicated. Single round weapons were nothing compared to the 20 round magazines we have for assault rifles now. Not only do these new updated rifles make it easier on the soldier but it also makes it so much safer, less people have to be in close contact meaning less people are dying. The rifles alone have updated but so have the optics. For example, an ACOG (advanced combat optical gunsight) can magnify up to 4 times making it possible to see things clearly from a distance. The ACOG is also small in size and light in weight which makes movement …show more content…
Not only was it not as easily accessible but it also was not as reliable. Soldiers couldn’t just pull a radio out of their bag and call up to another soldier miles away to inform them that danger was heading their way. Soldiers can now load a radio with frequencies, do a radio check before heading out and talk to anyone on the same station while they’re out on mission. Not only can they now warn other soldiers of what might be coming but they can also call to headquarters for whatever help they may need. Can you imagine how many lives could have been saved if they were able to reach out for help? Literally thousands of people would have been able to come home to their families if they had the technology we have today. Combat gear, radios, weapons and aircrafts have all advanced so much over the years, things are changing so frequently every single
Uniformity has become a major part of military lifestyle since before the Revolutionary War. Every item on a uniform has its own purpose and standards and should be held to that standard.Whether its from the number of belt loops all trousers have, to the significance of left over rights on the boot sales, every Marine should be held accountable for ensuring all pieces of the uniform are in its proper place.
The AN/PRC's (Army/Navy Portable Radio Communications) of the day made for a heavy pack and they had long antennas. Snipers would target the Comms guy. The radio person was glued to the platoon leader and the radio was the only contact with the world. Air strikes/air support, Dust Off, and supply requests all went through the radio guy, along with Intel on enemy size and movement.
One was that soldiers finally had a more convenient way to communicate with their leaders, and even President Lincoln. Lincoln and other leaders were able to strategize and plan with their men swiftly and easily. Another way this war was different was that soldiers, battles, weaponry, etc. could be captured and documented with the use of cameras. Although the process of developing the photos was tedious, they still had the opportunity. To take and develop the photos they had to use the “wet plate” method which required focus, many specific steps, multiple people, and chemically powered equipment. Thanks to all of these advancements, we have our better, more modern versions of weapons, transportation, communication, and
The wear and appearance of soldiers in the United States Army are while in uniform should be neat. There should be no excess “things” in a person’s pocket but it should lie down flat. The person wearing the uniform should look neat and concise not drawing attention to themselves. Soldiers should look like a unit or group with everyone blending in not standing out because they look different. In the army it’s important to be part of a team and like teams that play basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball, wrestling, and even chess teams. It’s important to wear the same thing. It shows unity and togetherness. This is important in the armed forces especially because of what they do. In the army, marines, navy, and air force
I am writing and essay today the proper wear and appearance of the army physical fitness uniform because I failed to meet the standards and did not have my uniform complete. The army P T uniform consists of the following items: gray army tee shirt, black army running shorts, running shoes, white socks and a reflective belt. On days when the weather is cold you may be authorized to wear your “high speeds”, which consist of an army physical fitness jacket long black running pants, green or black physical fitness cap and gloves with green or black inserts. When I went to the bathroom at 0115 at night here in Iraq I had on my black PT shorts, my gray pt shit untucked, and no reflective
In addition to advancements in smaller firearms, the US military also saw improvements in the sector of long range rifles. Muzzle loading muskets from the Revolutionary War were highly inefficient and and extremely dangerous to use. When on the battlefield, trying to load a muzzle loading musket became very complicated. If the soldier loaded a bullet but it got jammed, and they tried to fire, the musket would explode in their face, causing many unnecessary injuries to the soldier force (National Park Service, “Evolution of the Breechloader”). With the invention of the breech loader, loading a rifle became exceedingly simple. In a breech loading rifle, the soldier loads a cartridge containing the bullet and the gunpowder into a chamber. They would then proceed to fire the weapon. This method of loading a weapon was
On the battlefield, the game changes a lot. Shooting up from the sky, is a lot safer than being down on the ground. In the battle field, it’s not a political war anymore, its personal and the vision for the enemy ahead is not political, but it’s the person who is there to take your life away but not someone who is fighting for the opposing country.
In the army there are many uniforms a soldier has to wear. This is for the different activities a soldier does. For everything from their daily Physical Training (PT), their regular working uniform Army Combat Uniform (ACU), or their dress uniform either the Army Service Uniform (ASU), or the Army Green Service Uniform (Class A). Each uniform is design to fit a specific task and to be worn a in certain way. A great resource for either the ASU or the Class A is the “U.S. ARMY UNIFORM GUIDE.” I found this little book a great resource because it shows every form of the ASU for both males and females soldiers, for officers and enlisted. I found this to be great because it shows where everything goes, and how to measure everything, and for a
This weapon was typically on a tripod to steady the bouncing that came with automatic fire. One of the more unpredictable attacks came from the Arisaka Bolt-Action Rifle. Rifles were recognized in WWII for their long range and accuracy. This gun could be used with or without a scope. When scoped, range was greatly increased, as the shooter could see farther distances and put a round down range with precision. Though this wasn’t the primary weapon for most of the soldiers, it was favored by snipers for its precision at long ranges.

In this essay I will describe the many requirements and expectations set forth in the army's AR670-1. I will describe the importance of obedience to it and cite many of it's detailed descriptions. I am writing this essay because I failed to meet the standards asked of me me by both these regulations, and my leadership. I accept the responsibility of my actions and will not let my failure recur, nor will I let my fellow soldiers repeat my mistake. Since my failure was in regards to grooming or personal additions to uniform, I thought it would be pertinent to cover these subjects most thoroughly, If any additional information is required of me I will add on to this.
These new age sights employ technology like never before, with focal plane ranging reticles. This use of technology makes it possible for even an inexperienced shooter or even someone who has never fired a gun–like the ones making the decisions–to be able make accurate shots out to 800 meters. This would make it to where the 140,000 frontline soldiers could be trained in the field of rifleman in just a matter of days instead of weeks or months, making it a possibility and not a wild fantasy to have all 140,000 men and women trained
