All human beings are born with equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms, but where was this saying when the Holocaust was going on? The Holocaust was the biggest, most brutal, and baddest mass killing of a single race. The people on the side of the Holocaust did not listen to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or anything to persuade them to stop killing Jews. All humans deserve the rights given to them by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. One of the articles in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was violated was the seventeenth. Article 17 states that everyone has the right to own property alone as well in association with others and no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property. “The Hungarian police burst into every Jewish home in town: a Jew was henceforth to own gold, jewelry, or any valuable.” (Wiesel 10) was an example of Article 17 get violated. The author of the book, Elie Wiesel, was horribly punished for seeing and laughing at something he wasn’t suppose to see. “I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip.” (Wiesel 57) The cruel punishments that the people in charge of the concentration camps would have violated Article 5 which states no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment, The Holocaust had a lot of stuff that would have violated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mass killing spree, genocide, or intense racism could all describe the Holocaust. It was one of the worst things ever done on the face of the planet.
