Appalachian State University was founded by the Dougherty brothers in 1899 but was originally known as the Watauga College. Appalachian was originally a teachers college to create new teachers for the ‘lost province’ of Boone North Carolina. The Watauga College created a multitude of new teachers to better the education of those in the surrounding area. Appalachian State University is now known to put out some of the best teachers in the country.

Upper Iowa University Upper Iowa University began on very humble terms. Through the years, Upper Iowa University gradually expanded into one of the most popular higher learning institutions in the Midwest. During the 1990s and until the present time, the university has expanded into 25 campuses throughout the nation and globe. These 25 educational locations include single campuses in Arizona, Illinois and Oklahoma and two locations in Kansas. There are five locations in both Iowa and Louisiana and Wisconsin has ten campuses. There are global campuses in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
