I am applying to Plymouth State University’s Master of Educational Leadership program for the winter of 2016-2017. Currently, I am the head of the math department, hockey coach and assistant athletic director at New Hampton School, in New Hampton, NH. I would like to pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership with a focus on athletic administration to further my knowledge of the required leadership qualities, specialized skills and educational systems so that I may ultimately become a better math department chair and an athletic director.
My academic career has consisted of earning an undergraduate degree in economics from Dartmouth College. After college, I had the opportunity to play eight years of professional hockey, the last six years of which were spent living and playing in Europe. In the spring 2014, I officially retired from playing professional hockey. After retiring, I moved back to the United States and took a job teaching and coaching at New Hampton School. The original purpose of working at New Hampton School was for the opportunity to coach hockey. Conversely, during the past two years, as a member of the math department and New Hampton Community; I realized my passion for teaching. Teaching to me is coaching extremely similar to coaching. Rather than coaching student-athletes a sport, I am coaching them to learn math.
