Would it be worth giving everything up just to fight for a cause that you and the people of your race believed in? Many would say yes and do anything in the world to get the rights that they think they deserve. In history, there have been many famous activists who stood up to the US Government and fought for their races rights. One group was the 50 men from Port Chicago that stood up to the US Navy during WW2. The soldiers of Port Chicago protested out of their free will, were penalized for acting upon the issue, and made a difference in the US Navy and all over the country.
When 43 year old director Elia Kazan was called to the stage in the House of Un-American Activities, he did something that would change his career forever. He testified as a “friendly witness” which resulted in hatred from many of his colleagues. In 1954, two years after his testimony, Kazan produced On the Waterfront. Being one of his most famous works, On the Waterfront was an instant success, winning an abundance of awards and solidifying Kazan as one of the best and most influential directors of the early film-making era. Terry Malloy, the movies main character, was a middle-aged shore man who was caught up with the wrong group of people, which resulted in him being part of a mob hit. Throughout this film, Malloy battled his own self-conscious about him being a part of the killing of Joey Doyle, all the while being in a relationship with Edie Doyle, Joey’s sister. Finally, Terry decides to speak at a court hearing and gives crucial information that pointed directly to the mob being guilty of the killing. At the end of the movie, Terry confronts Johnny Friendly, the mob leader, and goes to work after being severely beaten,
For a near-championship boxer to fall from the limelight after a defeat is fairly common, but to lose due to his own brother betting against him is unheard of. Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront portrays the role of this former fighter living his life as a bum under a local mob boss. This movie stands out from how movies are portrayed today. It didn’t have a lot of fast chase scenes, immense battles, or over-the-top special effects. This movie focused on its characters, by portraying their reactions to the cumbersome niche they play on the dockyard. It was driven by a series of intertwined conflicts, and a strong mix of character development and storytelling, and made for a phenomenal piece of art.
Topic:'Terry says to Charley, "I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody instead of a bum. Which is what I am". Does the film support Terry's judgement of himself?
Robert Grey is an imagist who paints with words. Using imagery in his poems, Grey is able to visually communicate emotions and ideas. His poetry is concerned with the urbanisation effects on Australian nature and changes it brought within the lifestyle. This is metaphorically expressed in the poem ‘Journey: The North Coast’ as he dwells on the sheer beauty that can be found in the natural world in contrast to the alienated environments manufactured by men. In contrast to the idea of modernisation, Grey also expresses values of love and respect for the environment and nature through the physical and emotional journey. Additionally, the idea of Australian landscapes and strong sense of

The Chesapeake Bay is a 200-mile-long estuary extending from Norfolk, VA to Havre de grace Maryland. On average this bay contains about 68 trillion liters of water. This bay is the largest estuary in North America. It inhabits more than 3,000 species of plants, animals, and fish. “Since the early twentieth century, the Chesapeake Bay has experienced serious environmental degradation. Problems include large reductions in sea grass, reduced amounts of finfish and shellfish (especially oysters and crab), seasonal depletions in dissolved oxygen, and increases in sedimentation.” (Atkins & Anderson, 2003) These changes are brought on by pollution (Eutrophication and Toxic Contamination), development, deforestation, and agriculture. And according
I will never forget the first time I stepped foot into the Boundary Waters. It was February of 2016, a brutally cold weekend but one I will hold with me forever. My family and I took a day trip away from Camp Menogyn to go visit Rose Falls, one of the only waterfalls in Minnesota located in the Boundary Waters. When my mom told me we would be within park limits, I was ecstatic. Growing up, I heard stories from my parents and sister about the adventures they’d encountered in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I felt so excited for my first experience.
Lake Erie is thriving biologically but not in the way one might think. It’s poisoned with toxic algal blooms that grow in the phosphorus-concentrated waters millions of Canadians and Americas alike depend on for drinking water. Unfortunately, this is also not the first time this has happened to the Great, not-so-great Lake.
