The United States was built upon the concept of people immigrating here for a better life. Is the current stigma on undocumented workers coming to America for work, hypocritical for what the United States was built upon? Articles debate if undocumented workers profit America, or if they hurt the economy. The articles uses economist with contrasting opinions, as though they base their judgement from particular facts. Undocumented workers are a plus to the economy rather than a negative, when the facts are shown, they’re more pro reasonings than cons. Giovanni Peri is an economist from the University of California, Davis, Peri said “He concluded that undocumented workers do not compete with skilled laborers - instead, they complement them.” Illegal immigrants don’t have a high chance to become specialized in their practice, being specialized in their employment would mean that the individual would have to have further experience and education. Which means documented workers that are specialized, would work on mainly what they’re particularly good at. Leaving the illegal immigrants relying on documented skilled workers for jobs doing manual labor. Peri also included, “In states with more undocumented immigrants, skilled workers made more money and worked more hours; the economy’s productivity grew.” Two sides are both benefitted, the skilled worker has cheap labor, which allows them to take on more projects, and the undocumented workers now has an income. Contrasting to those claims other people believe that “undocumented workers, undercut wages and take jobs that would otherwise go to Americans.” In some cases, it’s true, but an American has a higher chance of being a skilled worker. They can get a job and benefit from undocumented worker instead of it being a negative effect. The only category undocumented immigrants hurt are “Labor economists have concluded that undocumented workers have lowered the wages of U.S. adults without a high-school diploma — 25 million of them — by anywhere between 0.4 to 7.4 percent.” Illegal immigrants, only negative impact are on Americans that didn’t complete high school. America's public schools are free. Where Americans can easily get an education, and later on become a skilled worker.
