During his team’s January 10 win over the Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks' defenseman Dylan DeMelo suffered a broken wrist. DeMelo underwent surgery to repair his broken wrist and is expected to be unable to return to play for eight weeks. DeMelo entered the Sharks' injured reserve just as fellow Shark defenseman, David Shlemko, returned to play after being out for several games with an upper body injury. This is certainly a tough situation, what makes it difficult is because her injury happened off of campus, not on school grounds and at another university at an extracurricular activity. Yet, as the athletic director I would take responsibility for the misdiagnosis of her injury. It would be very unsettling to me that a trainer and specialized orthopedic doctor on campus both misdiagnosed an injury of this kind. I would have the student come in, and have both of them reevaluate her to see if it was something they possibly could have missed.
