Food Reflection
Have you ever wondered how your food is made or what they make your food out of? Well in the stories, “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair, “Food Product Design” by Eric Schlosser, and also the movie FOOD INC., we find out how our food is processed and what it is made out of. In this reflection I will tell you some of my opinions and facts about these encounters.
First of all we had the book, “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair which talked about how the food was made before the a 1990’s. In this story it tells us how the food back then was made from anything, sometimes including human remains. What impacted me the most was just how the food was made. They had from little to no sanitization. If I would’ve lived back then and known that I might’ve eaten a human I don’t know what I would do. In page 354 it said, “In these rooms germs of tuberculosis might live for two years, but the supply was renewed every hour.” So many people would’ve been infected and brought it to their families that it sounds crazy that this ever happened. Surely there would’ve been families killed our gotten really sick do to this insane way of making food. What impacted me the most was that they lie with the labels. On page 359 it said, “Both are man-made additives that give most processed food its taste.” In this part of the story it is telling us how artificial and natural flavor are both man-made. In my mind, when I hear natural flavor I think of nature or from nature, but that is not the case for natural flavor because the food companies make the flavor. I am pretty sure that other people think the same way about the flavors. So something that I learned was that most of the flavors put in food comes from 1or 2 major
