My experience at DePaul’s Community and Involvement fair was a bit overwhelming to say the least. I was so inspired to join so many politically active organizations. I’ve signed up to join Depaul Democrats, DePaul Community Peacemakers, International Socialist Organization, and DePaul’s Urban Farming Organization. The reason why I consider DePaul’s Urban Farming Organization to be a politically active organization is because urban farming allows urban communities to obtain healthier, fresher, and cost reducing foods. One other organization also got me thinking, I never really did consider myself a socialist before, but after share ideas and opinions with the International Socialist Organization, I firmly believe it is a human right to acquire food, shelter, and an education. I am very curious to see what International Socialist Organization has in stores for me. Not only did I sign up for politically active organizations but also groups that asistent me for the future success in my Psychology major; DePaul Neuroscience and DePaul’s Future Alumni Association. DePaul Activities Board, DePaul Music Business Organization, and Springboard Theater Company are all organizations I want to get involvement in just for pure entertainment of them. DePaul Activities Board is said to be the largest programming body on campus and could be a great place to meet new people at DePaul. As a former cello player I miss getting involved with the music scene at school which is why DePaul Music Business Organization see like a great way to bring music back into my life. I as well miss all the backstage work I use to do in high school so I signed up for Springboard Theater Company and see what I can offer to help build, paint, or set up any set design
Through this university I have been able to become involved with various student organizations, including CEPA and the PILOT program. CEPA stands for the Club de Español Para Amigos. This club provides opportunities for its members to practice their Spanish speaking skills, meet and collaborate with organizations that support the Hispanic community, and volunteer in areas that support Spanish speaking community. This club has allowed me to combine my love for Hispanic language and culture, and do philanthropic work. As a Spanish major, it has provided me with the opportunity to network and practice the skills that I have learned in the classroom. Another organization I am affiliated with is the Pilot program. This is a leadership program on campus. As a member of this club I attend a variety of workshops in order to receive credit as a certified leader and then a master leader. These workshops cover topics including diversity, skill building, self- improvement, and leadership programs. This organization has allowed me to grow as a leader, and become a more well-rounded
Our future goals are to provide the society with a sustainable source of food. We hope to provide and educate everyone with a modern way of farming. Our project hopes to bring down the food desserts, and start a domino effect of positive outcomes, and result in healthy and prepared to go into their future. Not only does our project have a direct effect on individual’s health and energy levels, but it will revolutionize urban
In his article, “Setting the table for Urban Agriculture,” accredited writer, Michael Pollan, expounds upon Urban Agriculture and it’s place in the twenty-first century. Pollan’s purpose is to explain to readers the legal and societal context of Urban Agriculture. He uses a serious tone and real world examples in order to solidify the idea that Urban Agriculture is an integral part of our “local, regional, national, and global” food infrastructure.
Throughout my high school career, I've participated in a plethora of extracurricular activities. My freshman and sophomore year I ran track and field at my school and a club. In addition during those years, I participated in Speech and Debate. For 6 months of my junior year, I was a tutor for middle school students at Breakthrough SF. Also during my 11th-grade year, I started going to a life-skills program called Omega Boys Club in which I still attend weekly. All four years of my high school career I have been apart of the Black Student Union, and two of the years I have been the president. As of right now, I am in the process of starting my own community organization call Dream Big Scholars to mentor, tutor, and enrich middle school students
Participating in an array of organizations including DECA, Student Council, National Honor Society, Hoper Center Mentoring, Family Leadership Training Institute, and Softball has presented me with the ability to be actively involved with the diversity in my community. Over the past few years I have learned to communicate effectively, work well with a variety of
In my 9th grade year, I joined Key Club, a volunteer organization I knew nothing about. As time progressed I made new friends thanks to Mrs. Healy and renowned Monica Moore. I later – alongside my new “mentor” Monica and Patrick Wright– began to do the announcements with them. My sophomore year, I was also in Key Club but this time, was the 2014-2015 historian and only sophomore on a cabinet of all seniors. I was actively involved in a variety of clubs and groups: class president,
The operation started around dawn on the 17th of September, 1944. German forces continued receiving regular air strikes by allied forces near Eindhoven, Deelen, Ede, and airfields in Holland. Paratroopers of the airborne assault boarded their planes and began travel to their drop sites. The operation used over two thousand aircraft, between troop carriers and assault aircraft, to get the paratroopers close enough to assault into their objectives. By approximately 1400 hours local time on the 17th, an estimate of 20,000 troops landed in vicinity of their planned drop zones. Additionally, this was the first successful airborne operation for dropping artillery into battle. The three assault forces began their movement onto their objectives by evening of the 17th, finding little resistance until they approached Eindhoven. Upon arrival at some of the locations to secure, it was identified the Germans blew up the bridges before allied forces could reach their destinations. For these sites, allied forces successfully secured the locations however failed to have a capable route through. Many of the sites, although some German forces were
I feel a moral obligation not only to my friends and family whom have helped me, but to society, to contribute to the world, to make a change, even if its the smallest change. I believe that with SPU I'll be able to uncover my gifts and share them with the world. I want to add my voice to our national conversation. To prepare myself to be an informed and an engaged citizen, ready to serve and lead with integrity that is given through good education. So I can think critically, and be a positive force in my
My outside interests include politics and working with political campaigns in order to institute positive change. My interest began in high school when I was 1 of 1,000 high school boys selected throughout the State of New Jersey to attend American Legion Jersey Boys State. This weeklong program is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students sponsored by Rider University in New Jersey. I was able to represent my city/district of 40 students in the program as a City Councilman and Assemblyman. This program really provided me with much insight and exposure to the government and the operation of the various entities of governing. I noticed that there were many things that required a lot of
During the last 2 years of high school I became increasingly involved in my school and community. The most notable extracurricular activity I did was be president of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) charter at Cesar Chavez high school. Based on its main principle “scholarship for service” I coordinated or contacted volunteer events for my members and other students in the school to be involved in. There were many members, including myself, who would go to those events to serve the community. For that club I was able to present a total of 18 volunteer events that we could help, along with some school events. Other than CSF I was in National Honors Society, Key Club, Interact, MEChA, and Friday Night Live, all of which are service
After I attended a campus visit this summer, I knew that I wanted to call IU my humble abode. As an undergraduate at IU I plan to partake in and enjoy as many activities that I can; whether that’s tailgating on a friday night or drinking a fat-free latte in the Indiana Memorial Union. When I’m not busy studying, I plan to pursue my love for helping people. Community service has always been a big part of my life and I want to continue my volunteerism at IU. Along with being active in the community I am eager to join the College Republicans at Indiana University. I come from a very politically active family but I actually have never been “into” politics. Lately however, it's began to spark my interest so I guess it’s time to see what all the
This was my first visit to the United States. Together with other like-minded students, I traveled off the beaten track, right into the center of American social activism, and gained some hands-on experience in a number of soup kitchens and food pantries that catered to underserved communities in Virginia, Washington D.C. and New York. The tireless efforts of the activists and the unflagging optimism among many of the people who made use of these services impressed me, and shaped my academic outlook on social activism and poverty in the United

When attending The University of Akron in fall 2013, the first activity I participated in was a living-learning community for Speech Language Pathology. After, my first semester I decided to become a part of something bigger than myself and that was Alpha Phi. After joining Alpha Phi I was also initiated into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I have held positions within Alpha Phi such as, Public Relations and Advertisement chairman. While holding this position I was in charge of collecting all
In order to prepare myself for these goals, I have made sure to make myself a well-rounded individual while maintaining grades within well standards in order to get accepted into graduate school. In order to make myself a well-rounded individual I made sure to join many clubs and organizations, volunteer within the community, and to always work hard for my money.
