The United States Department of Commerce (DOC) is one departments of the US government that is saddled with the sole responsibility of promoting the economic growth of the country. It was created in 1903 and there are many goals associated with the department, but the overarching goal is to promote economic growth of the country. It promotes job creation, ensures fair and reciprocal trade as well as fostering innovation and policies that increase commercial activities in the country and beyond. In the 2018 strategic plan for the organization, they are five (5) key goals identified. They Include: 1. Accelerating American leadership through expansion of commercial space activities, advancing innovation and strengthening intellectual property
The world today revolves around technology and is in an ever upward spiraling path of new advancements. This path is now at what some people call the “final frontier”, or the space age. The discoveries being made on this front are overwhelming in comparison to the technology that the world had only twenty years ago. Space exploration was once left up to the governments, as they battled to be the first country in space, but with national debts raising and the cuts made in response, space exploration is beginning to become new grounds for private business owners. Private companies are already beginning to send off rockets at a fraction of the cost that government does, but if more money was put into the government space program, then they

Exploration and innovation are an innate part of America today, yet some of the public during the early 1960s was opposed to joining the space race which lead America into a great technological era. After proposing a plan to Congress to increase the budget for space exploration, Harvard graduate and President John F. Kennedy addressed the American people from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 1962 to arouse support for the continuation of space exploration and increasing funding for NASA (Freidel and Sidey). In his revered speech, “We choose to go to the moon,” he ambitiously proclaimed the need for American exploration and the maintenance of leadership in all aspects of innovation. Kennedy reminds his audience space must be “used
Interstate commerce has enabled and developed economic opportunities for businesses for centuries. It wasn’t until the late 1800s where regulations came about that restricted certain activities, and of course, other laws and regulations that discussed taxation that multistate businesses would be affected with. For someone that has worked with these laws and regulations relating to the taxation of interstate commerce, I am excited to assist you in helping your strategy related to income tax filings, in addition to sales and use tax filings.
The Office of Management and Budget, which outlines the White House’s plans for economic success, maintains that it “look[s] to scientific innovation to promote sustainable economic growth” (Zients and Holdren 1). NASA contributes to this notion by spending its budget on investments in and collaboration with other scientific institutions. It plays a part in each of the nine areas of science and technology (e.g. clean energy and advanced manufacturing) outlined in the Office of Management and Budget’s plan for economic prosperity (“NASA Socio-Economic Impacts” 9). Moreover, NASA participates in the development of 14 different technology types, from launch propulsion systems to nanotechnology (4). These involvements by NASA stimulate the economy in several ways. The administration encourages prosperity and innovativeness in other companies by contributing funds to their efforts. This, in turn, spurs competition in the technology marketplace, as more companies want to participate in NASA’s endeavors. Also, NASA’s participation in energy research guides the United States towards energy independence, which promotes a stable economy. This shows that the federal government’s funding of NASA is justified because the administration’s contributions to society and the economy are more valuable than the 0.5% of the federal budget that it
Technology had been an important element of success in World War II. The advancement of nuclear weapons, and development of atomic bombs gave the US and its allies a major advantage. By the 1950s, the Soviet Union had caught up and developed nuclear weapons. But space technology still had a fair way to go. The Soviet Union lacked fast-paced space technology, the Americans had some fast-paced, but not very advanced technology (. ) Although the Soviet Union had a head start, which didn’t help them in the end, nevertheless they impacted how the United States conducted their space exploration because they proved to be a challenging opposition, and pushed the American scientists to work to their ends.
To achieve this objective, the company set several long-term and short-term goals that promoted accountability, transparency and corporate citizenship whilst creating a flexible environment that responded effectively to consumer preferences. Table 1 illustrates the company’s 5 main short-term goals.
For many years, the United States has accomplished many great scientific and technological progress in air and space. NASA has been shown to be one of the leading representatives of these accomplishments and remains a leading force in the research and public interest of space exploration, as well as science and technology in general. More importantly, this exploration has given us a greater perspective of Earth, ourselves, and the universe. In order to thrive in these creations, steps must be taken in order to reach the point of discovery that launches us ahead of other countries. In all, funding on NASA space program by the United States should be raised to revolutionize technology, create major discoveries, prevent hazards in space, and
Farrell, Pappalardo and Shelanski (2010) pointed out that the Bureau of Economics “BE” of the Federal Trade Commission “FTC” works to accomplish the missions of the FTC including the competition “antitrust” and consumer protection missions. Therefore, they focus on case-specific policy analysis and litigation support work for the consumer protection. Consequently, for example, the FTC continues to make rules to rescue mortgages and debt industries. Particularly these debts grew significantly during the financial crisis and the recession. Further, the agency works to improve and unify mortgage disclosures to support better consumer choice for these loan products (Farrell, Pappalardo & Shelanski (2010).
“Now it is time to take longer strides- time for a great new American enterprise- time for this nation to take a clearly leading role in space achievement which in many ways may hold the key to our future on earth… I believe that
The Department of Commerce and Labor was established on February 14, 1903, during the presidential administration of Theodore Roosevelt. Less than ten years later it was divided into two separate entities, the Department of Commerce and the Department of Labor, each headed by a secretary (Shuman, R. B. (2016), U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), Salem Press Encyclopedia). The secretary’s job was monitoring trades between the United States and other nations. An important mandate of the Department of Commerce is to promote America’s business and trade with other nations. The Department of Commerce went through several mission changes. Where it once was focused on international business and trading, it began to
Many critics believe that NASA and space exploration should not be the main focus of the government. However, NASA is not just about flying rockets and putting men into space. There is science and engineering that is being developed to push humanity forward in life. This space program is essential to answering philosophical questions, creating new technology for practical everyday use, the international collaboration with other countries, and the long-term survival of the human
With the threat of Congress cutting NASA 's budget, the United State 's sixty year preeminence in space exploration is in serious peril..
