Have you ever heard of the Korean War? If you have, why was The United States involved? The Korean War took place from 1950-1953 and it was when North Korea invaded South Korea and to try and get the communists out of southern end of the country. The president sent the troops for multiple reasons and the outcome of the war was brutal. However, The United States played a huge role on the outcome of the war. The President was the one who sent the troops to Korea but what was the reason? Harry S. Truman was President during the war and on June 27th 1950, he announced that he was sending troops. At the time, The U.S was undertaking the major military operation, to enforce a United Nations resolution. The reason why Truman wanted troops to help because he didn’t want North Korea to become an independent nation by communism. The Security Council met on June 28 …show more content…

North Korea invaded South Korea without notice because of the 38th parallel line, dividing the north and the south. As stated above, the point of this war was to get the communists out of the South and it didn't go as planned for the Allies. The North Korean army took it very slow, they didn't want to be too obvious as to what their point was of going into South Korea. However, when they did get through the 38th parallel, United States started preparing their troops for the war. The outcome of the war wasn’t what most people expected. Yes, The Korean War was short but it was extremely bloody. Nearly 5 million people died during the time of the war, which is devastating. More than half of these people who died were civilians and didn’t deserve this punishment for no reason. The rate of civilian casualties was higher than WWII and Vietnam war. Almost 40,000 people died and over 100,000 people were wounded. No one expected that this would occur, even though people died, to this day the countries are
