When your young you are taught in between right and wrong but do you always choose correctly? In the short story “Young Goodman Brown” published by writer Nathaniel Hawthorne. The story takes place in 17th century puritan New England. Hawthorne uses allegory, imagery, and symbolism to convey his underlying meaning. Hawthorne utilizes symbolism and imagery in his short story to convey the theme, everyone is a sinner no matter who you are. Hawthorne developed the idea of innocence and purity associating this description with faith, Young Goodman Brown’s wife, by describing her “pink ribbon’s of her cap.” He mentions the ribbons repeatedly not only in the beginnning but as well as towards the end.
