Evan Wallster Professor William Parkhurst Biomedical Ethics 23 November 2015 Utilitarianism: Racial Oversight Committees Based upon the rule of utilitarianism, I argue that repeated historical demonstrations of racial discriminatory practices in medicine leads us to a conclusion racially based oversight committees should presided over patients whose care has been historically documented as ethically heinous acts of racial mistreatment. In cases like the Tuskegee experiment and Drapetomania will be significant in elucidating the necessity of racial oversight. It is imperative we understand that racial separation from white the masses for discriminatory practices is that have been displayed in the past as complications have arisen over the years from human experimentation. Improper utilitarianism in the name of advancing medical science is ethically horrendous, but yielded many scientifically important discoveries that have advanced our understanding. The inhumane manner however by which they were conducted has been shown to be in dissent ethical codes. Utilitarianism says that right actions are those that result in the most beneficial balance of good over bad consequences for everyone considered. “The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results for the good of society, unprocurable by other means or methods of study, and not random or unnecessary in nature…The experiment should be so conducted as to avoid all unnecessary physical and mental suffering and
