The VFE video contained plenty of examples of what makes an effective classroom, it displayed a positive atmosphere and classroom community where all of the children were friendly with one another. The video followed Mr. Robert Recio and his four and five year old students, in the video the children are shown during free choice time as they explore the different interest areas in the classroom as Mr. Recio interacts and models proper behavior for the children. There are several competencies that make up a successful classroom; is the teacher prepared and are the materials accessible to the children, is there proper classroom behavior management and is there student engagement and active learning happening in the classroom? The video demonstrated
I believe that I am proficient in establishing a classroom setting that calls upon the students to learn in an individual and collaborative manner. I believe that I have sufficiently encouraged positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation. I have shown this in learning activities that have been presented to the students. An example of this would be with the placard assignment, which had the students fill out a sheet that corresponded to four maps to help them figure out what artifacts certain cultural regions would use. During this learning segment, students would have to be self directed after the directions were given, the students would have to use collaborative skills, and they were all engaged during
There was a point in the videos pertaining to discipline, which I found to be very important. The video stated that when learning disabled students get in trouble, they often do not understand why because of their perception of the event or issue. It is important that teachers take the time to get a better understanding of how a student may have perceived a task.
(1987) described this form of instruction as a systematic method of teaching with emphasis on proceeding in small steps, checking for student understanding, and achieving active and successful participation by all students. I have also used the strategy as reference for determining the strengths and weaknesses of my lesson. After conducting in class lesson and reviewing my video lesson multiple times, I was able to identify my strengths
Through completing this activity, I learned more than I have with any other activity I have done thus far while earning my Education Specialist degree. I had to observe a teacher and provide constructive feedback using the Framework for Teaching. This observation included a pre-conference where the teacher told me what she wanted me to pay particular attention to. It required that I observe in real-time, rather than simply using a video where I can pause frequently. I then had to analyze the data I collected during the observation, in order to determine strengths and areas for improvement that I shared during the post-conference. The teacher was a master teacher and thought the lesson went very well. She was shocked when I had some ideas for how to improve her instruction. I mentioned that students seemed fidgety, and she could incorporate more cooperative structures to get students more active in their learning. I also thought she needed cooperative roles for students when they completed their group work, that way everyone was accountable for the work.
Refer to scenes in the video clip(s) where you provided a safe, respectful, and organized learning environment.
The first area talked about is strategies for classroom management, the video has some good concepts when it comes to this idea. My favorite of them was to make sure to set clear behavioral expectations for the classroom. In
It is an eye opening to see how every single child thinks different. There are many thoughts that makes every single person unique. This video made me think on how important is to get to know your students and also their family background. It is very important to have a little conversation with their family members and also with the students in general.
The classroom I watched gave off an impression of being a decent quality classroom. The room had a lot of
According to the video “Chaos in the Classroom” there is an issue going on with students that are getting offended with things that people are saying. Political correction is the term that I being used. Students are using this issue to get out of class. For example, if a professor has a lecture about racism or rape a student can say that they are offended or they don’t feel comfortable with the lecture, they can be excused. What the people in the video was discussion was, is it right for college students to use the Political correction to say that they are offended with the remarks that are being said. Are students using the Political correction as an excuse to get out of lectures.
Learning is unique to each individual. Some students learn well in a structured group setting. There are visual, auditory, and hands on learners. Others find it easier to learn with one on one instruction some are capable of teaching themselves like Fredrick Douglas. An ideal educational experience would incorporate the various procedures highlighted in the video “Unschooling: the new class of learning”. These learning methods include those of Dale J. Stephens, a student who started a self-directed school and Arno Stern an educated researcher who “created a space for children to play and paint without restraint, without goal, and without competition”.
I noticed that many students pretended to not understand and they just wanted to prolong until the class was over. I didn’t think it was necessary to repeat the video maybe more than three times. The teacher gave out the worksheet to the students prior to the video and the worksheet was going to be scored, so the teacher wanted to make sure that the students did ok. Most of the activities the teacher did for the class were limited to one activity and that was to practice with the groups, reviewing and practicing what the teacher just
Since I have been a Para educator working with special education students for the past three years, many of my chosen dispositions were already in place. Now that I am in my second eight weeks of student teaching I still hold true to the dispositions that I choose in the beginning. The only disposition that I had no knowledge of was number 9-Utilizes standards and curriculum guides to create learning goals. This disposition is one that I learned once I was placed in the classroom with my co-op teacher. There was a variety of exceptionalities in my special education classroom and along with those exceptionalities came different learning skills. Those exceptionalities encompass the disposition that students learn in many different ways. This also hold true in the general classroom. There are visual learners as well as kinesthetic learners. This is why teachers must engage their students in many different ways. In my lessons I use a variety of learning techniques such as journals for those students who like to express themselves through writing, and cooperative learning exercises such as concept mapping. Concept mapping helps students connect terms in the material with the theme in that part of the lesson. Videos are also shown to launch a lesson. This helps the
In order to provide an effective learning environment for students it is important to understand how children learn and the most effective teaching methods. One of the most important factors is for students to have a positive relationship with their teacher, as well as feeling safe and supported in the classroom, and comfortable enough to take learning risks. Once this classroom environment has been established, using evidence-based effective teaching strategies enhances student learning. Effective teaching strategies include having clear lesson objectives, explicitly teaching skills and strategies, praising specific student achievements and providing specific timely feedback explaining how students can achieve objectives from their current
When students came in, they were calm and polite, a few even spoke to their visitors and seemed genuinely pleased that they had guests today. When the students came in, they knew exactly what they were supposed to do and did so quietly. The diversity in this classroom was nice to see and the students all interacted kindly to each other and with
There are many aspects to teaching and as a teacher it is necessary to understand the most important aspects of teaching and how they should be incorporated into the classroom. A teacher’s most important job is not to teach specific material but to build relationships with the students and ensure they feel safe and cared for. Once the teacher is able to ensure this then they should focus on teaching, however teaching is more than listing off facts and sharing information with the students. As teachers it is essential we try to engage our students. There are many ways to engage students and each teacher as a specific way they get their classroom involved in learning. During my field experience I have learned the importance of being able to engage students and I have seen what a classroom looks like when students are not engaged. My field experience has helped to reflect on student engagement and how I would place the experience in my philosophy of education.
