Values clarification and analysis: Revisited
Values often use modified methods and styles; I have utilized these different ethics in my career, which has aided me in improving, the environment at work and in my life. Having these particular skills of approaching situations causes an optimistic environment, respect for others, honesty, and reliable outcomes. I have had the comfort of knowing whether, you’re working or at home or out in public, individuals appreciate this kind of merit. These values cause high points in your character with families, patients and your colleagues. Real richness comes from knowing you’re assisting patients with top-quality care, and these goals are obtainable. Identification of these values prepares an

As nurses, we need to have confidence, good viewpoints, strong beliefs spiritual understandings and moral values in developing a powerful image. “I have always believed you are what you think you are.” (Coelho, n.d). If you’re honest, have self-confidence, reliable, sound principles, and respect; you can acquire the capability to be successful. (Posner, n.d.).
I think it’s essential to your profession to be aware of your attendance, to work well with your co-workers, to practice dressing appropriately for your job, and to be attentive to your patients; this can transmit or be viewed as achievements. I practice these qualities of values by having proper etiquettes, thinking oneself as efficient in care, by my body language, maintaining a well-ordered body appearance, and maintaining eye contact with whom I was speaking to. First impressions are important when caring for patients, talking with families and understanding how staff reacts to me. All these distinguishing characteristics speak dynamically about my abilities, ethics, proficiencies, and how compassionate you are. (Living Values, n.d.).
Work Values
In the surgery department, I work as a circulator, scrub nurse, and a charge nurse. Using these different approaches, ideals, and standards of care are often needed and applied to my assessments. Being compassionate, respectful and honest to patients is a required principle our hospital expects in caring for each
We’ve had a lot of discussion about ethics, values and morals this week and have drawn some lines between the meaning of each that applies to our personal and professional lives. Our values help guide us in our understanding of right and wrong, basically what we believe to be acceptable action in any situation we’re presented with. Morals are types of values that deal more with good and bad, the foundation for our behavior and decisions (The Definition of Morality, 2014). Ethics use shared morals and values in a system of accepted rules that a specific group of people agree to abide by. For example, most physicians agree to abide by the Code of Medical Ethics established by the American Medical Association since it is considered to be the most comprehensive code available (AMA's Code of Ethics, 2015).
Discuss the components of nursing's contemporary image that places nurses in this position of trust
The reason that I chose this topic is because I have seen the impact confidence, or lack of, has made on my practice. Confidence is an important aspect of care; not only because of what it symbolizes, but the direct effect it has on the patients and a nurse’s mindset.
The profession of nursing is often looked at as taking care of sick people or treating physical well-being. Many do not realize that nursing encompasses so much more than that. It is very important to me to have a positive attitude that transfers to my coworkers and patients. I want to be committed to helping those in need and desire to be able to be a confident health educator. I think it is very important to use the knowledge I have in my area of expertise to instruct others where it is needed. I would like to be able to say I gave the highest quality of care that I could at the end of each day. I realize that not everything will always be perfect or smooth, and there is only so much I can do. However, many of the rough patches can be eased with hard work and a good outlook. I want to be able to form great relationships with my colleagues as well as the client and facilitate everyone working together. Nursing is a respectable profession and I hope to contribute my own compassion to the entire community.
Values may serve as standards or criteria (Schwartz 2012). The main value in the field of health care is preserving patients’ health or helping them recover

I believe the best way to take care of patients is through education. Through education, patients gain a better idea of their circumstance and have the ability to take control over their health. Using sincerity, professionalism, humor, and approachability, educating a patient can be done in an effect manner. I have seen these qualities in action during my observations, and I believe that I possess these traits and have the ability to further develop them. Through these attributes, I hope that I can become a humble and well-respected occupational
Following certain virtues and values are important to carry on to the healthcare career. Two important virtues that I believe nurses must have are courage and wisdom. “Courage is the mental or moral strength to persevere and withstand danger”. “Wisdom is the judicious application of knowledge” and learning to improve from your mistakes. Courage is something I believe many employees of the hospital lack, but don’t actually have any idea that they are lacking it. That’s why its always important to have courage! For example, if you work in a larger hospital, or as a CAN, or in a unit which you dislike, it will be difficult to show courage. Many people (CAN) dislike cleaning after elderly patients who can’t clean after themselves. Lacking courage
I would say that the three characteristics that are key to my professional image in my chosen career are my Apperance, Caring attitude, and Competence and accountability. As a nurse, I have to make sure that I am prepared to work, meaning I look neat in appearance, hair looks nice , no thick make up, no long nails, and always follows our hospital dress code. Another characteristic is my caring attitude to my patients and coworkers. I do not think that I will last in my nursing profession, if I don’t have compassion to my patients. At the same time, I should remain polite and well-spoken to my coworkers, patients and their family. The last characteristics that are very vital to my professional image are my competence and accountability. I
While more nurses are graduating, they are moving quickly out of clinical practice and the number of nurse experts is decreasing, leaving hospitals lacking. Thornley and West described the importance of the nurse expert as a role model for the new graduate nurse and vital in that nurse’s development of their image of themselves as a nurse (2009). It is imperative that new graduate nurses spend time in the clinical setting to develop their own concept of themselves as nurses before they leave the clinical setting to
The virtue ethics such as compassion, discernment, trustworthiness, and integrity are pivotal values that are the essential for the effective delivery of healthcare (Margaret ,2014,p. 50). Doctors and nurses in environments where you are constantly put under chronic stress it’s critical that personal you are able to make the hard calls, be supportive and compassionate as well as be competent in your skills as a health care provider.
Being compassionate and available to provide support to the patients and their families in difficult times
I would like to display a professional image that represents myself and the nursing profession positively. Most people that enter nursing want to help people maintain a healthy lifestyle and improve the quality of life for everyone. Each day nurses are judged by their attitude, appearance, and behaviors inside and outside of work. Being competent in my profession and continuing my education not only increases my chances of success but it also shows my commitment to continuously improving myself and wanting to provide the best care possible. It is important for me to display a positive, caring, and grateful attitude towards others. When people are admitted to the hospital their sick, in pain, and scared. Displaying acts of kindness and
Another important component is compassion. Being able to show professional compassion is a key component to any type of professional job. Being able to empower patients/clients to achieve the highest level
There are a lot of qualities that a nurse can exhibit when in the workplace. Many of these qualities can have a strong effect on patients and the connection a nurse can make with them. One of the qualities all nurses, and health care providers in general, should possess is a high standard of professionalism. Professionalism is “a specific style or behavior in the workplace” (Campbell) which is an umbrella with so many factors that fall under it and contribute to it. Some of these factors are different attributes and behaviors, some are the way a nurse approaches the patient, and some have to do with a code that the nurse follows everyday when they are working as a nurse. Professionalism is an important factor in building trust with patients, and this can be done in the code of ethics that the nurse holds themself to and in the ways the nurse interacts with patients.
