My interest in studying abroad stems from my unique experiences as a Taiwanese American growing up in Texas with practically all of my relatives living thousands of miles away from me. Starting from my first summer, and almost every summer after, I flew 15+ hours to see my relatives. I had the opportunity to experience night markets, new scenic views, and a completely different culture. With each visit, my love of traveling grew. I knew that I wanted to travel as often and to as many countries as I possibly could.
I entered Vanderbilt University certain that I was going to be able to study abroad somewhere new and full of surprises. However, I found out that even though the school offers plenty of opportunities not many engineers actually get to take advantage of the programs due to the rigors of the curriculum. Not one to be daunted by

Vanderbilt is a well-rounded University. Its lack of favoritism is generally good, but I feel that being part of a program that is specifically engineering inclined for a semester would provide me with a more focused outlook. I would be able to put the majority of my efforts in furthering my engineering knowledge without the pressure of meeting liberal arts requirements. Beyond the technical branches of the engineering department I am looking to take courses such as MT-4002 (technology management studies) that supplement my engineering management minor. Since I plan on joining the corporate world which often deals with international affairs, the different points of emphasis that I’m sure to encounter in these classes are of great interest to me. I will be able to compare and contrast the management strategies with those that I learn at Vanderbilt and gather a more complete vision on how to succeed in the real world. I see this see this as a very useful advantage since most people either get to see it from one side or the other, and I'm excited to expand these skills at
Studying abroad will be an experience of a lifetime. Going beyond the US Coastlines that I have never crossed will get be valuable life lessons that I must learn to be successful in my future career. I want to increase my knowledge both inside and outside of the classroom, and I believe the best way to do that for me is to continue to go beyond those small town borders that have kept me
I aspire to attend the Clark Atlanta University because it is a symbol for past and future generations of educational and operational excellence. Clark Atlanta University is the hub of African American leadership and educational expansion, and with the constant policing of the community and poaching of black culture in today’s society, it is significant that I achieve an education that represents myself and the world with which I am familiar and intend to change for the better.
Studying abroad is important to me for a multitude of reasons. The most pressing of which is,
On July 6, 1999 a future Clemson Tiger was born, me. As the son of two Clemson alumni, it has been the overall goal of my life to attend the beloved Clemson University and follow my parents’ legacy. Experiencing football and baseball games, caressing Howard’s Rock, and making many everlasting memories has enticed me since I was a young boy. I have considered the university to be my number one choice when picking my future college since the first time I stepped foot on the campus. Knowing that I was initially not accepted into the undergraduate program urges me to prove myself and show the staff of Clemson all that I can bring to better further the reputation of the university. I have worked extremely hard to get to where I am today, but all I can do is get better and I will do whatever it takes to help guarantee my success as a student at Clemson University. I intend to live on campus to help ensure exemplary grades, attend all classes whether attendance is mandatory or optional, and lastly, I have an strong and supportive family of successful alumni to push me to be a prosperous student. My family deeply believes in a Clemson education over another because it has enabled them to be successful in the business world and obtain the high ranking positions in their companies that they possess today. Their success with their Clemson degrees inspire me to obtaining the cherished honor of a Clemson graduate and grow the highly respected reputation of a
I chose to attend Xavier University for many reasons. Some reasons include: continuing my education route, receiving a unique education, and strengthening my Christian beliefs. Since a second grader, I’ve always wanted to become a pediatric dentist and attend Xavier. Although my journey became rough, and seemed impossible, I can finally say, “I am a freshman at Xavier University of Louisiana, and I know for a fact that attending Xavier will allow me to become the best pediatric dentist I can be!”
When I began my college search in the summer before senior year, Tulane University was at the top of my list. Many of the schools I researched focused on only one strong suit, such as their academic curriculum or campus diversity. Tulane, however, possessed an extensive variety of characteristics that I found to be crucial for a successful college experience. A combination of superior academic facilities, highly qualified instructors, and a vibrant culture makes Tulane University a prime location for my undergraduate studies.
If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
The best feature I admire in Penn University is the diversity. It is especially important as I am an international student who devoted to travelling. In our world, making the connections is a crucial part of the success. I can never predict to what will I be faced to and which people will foster me along the way. I dream about having a business partner who will have completely different ideas and approaches than mine; that way we can share it and come to the understanding of the culminating way toward the goal. It is captivating to know how the people’s minds work. And I will be very thankful for the possibility to work or be surrounded by dynamic, motivated and communicative community. That is an ultimate inspiration. Working in a team nurtures
During my past three years at Pasadena City College I was able to explore courses and narrow my interests in a way that may not have been possible at an expensive university. While I have always had an interest in the technical and scientific disciplines, out of high school I was unfocused. I wanted to be a part of something that impacted my community in a positive manner. When first looking into careers I never considered a technical based career, mainly due to family career history. However, as I began to excel in math and MESA organizers got more involved in my success I realized there was a space for my interest in STEM.
“The Jerome J. Lohr SDSU College of Engineering will be a nationally recognized, regionally relevant, student-centered and accessible land-grant college” (Strategic Plan, 2017, para. 1). The faculty and students at South Dakota State University strive to achieve this goal each year; however, the academic journey of the students may be partially slowing them down. The course layout for undergraduate engineering students may be ineffective. The first two years for an undergraduate, limits his or her ability to improve specific, practical knowledge on his or her major to improve chances on summer internships, and be better prepared for high level courses. Another area the SDSU College of Engineering can improve, is the amount of
In fact, that is not the only thing from this course that has helped me develop my professional skills before I graduate and join the workforce. Having a project from industry sponsors like TAMU Transportation Services and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute has given me real life experience interacting with industry members and other engineers in a professional setting. From bi-weekly meetings with the sponsors to the simple email interactions have all given me precious insight on what I can expect in my future
I feel studying abroad will enhance my energy for academic goals and will strengthen my interest in learning. Also, my lifelong goal has been to start my own trading firm and globalization is a huge part of trading. I need to know the ins and outs of the foreign markets and studying abroad will increase my knowledge of how foreign countries do things. These days business is all about globalization and I wont be successful in globalization if I don’t get to see the world through with my own eyes.
“In 2006 to 2007, according to the data compiled by the Institute of International Education, 582,984 students from all over the world were enrolled in American colleges and universities in a wide range of fields” (Carter, Paragraph 2, 2008). The United States has the highest number of students who are coming to study abroad than any other countries. Each year, the number of international students coming to the United States to obtain degrees is increasing by thousands, and home countries of these students are primarily India, China and Korea, all located in the whole different continent. But what are the motives of students who are crossing the sea to study? Their goal of studying abroad is to experience diversity and to adapt attitudes
In my high school, there hasn’t been an engineering program there for years. Only computer science, Junior ROTC, and fine arts. I had been determined to go to the local math and science school, but without having the extremely advanced background
Inheriting the initial interest from my father who is an engineer, I am determined to become an engineer myself since little. Loving science, I chose to major in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) for my undergraduate education in Tongji University without hesitation. Taking a broad range of elements as raw materials, MSE incorporates theoretical research into applications, and is extensively applied in various fields, such as automotive, civil engineering, etc. I was luckily trained strictly in Tongji University within a basic multidimensional framework involving theoretic teaching and scientific research.
