The poem’s title is Vanishing Point by Lawrence Raab, which generally speaks of life’s journey and the aspirations each one of us has for him or herself. The title of the poem describes the perspective of life. At the vanishing point, distant objects seem to be little and parallel lines appear to converge. This is the point of confusion whereby a person’s beliefs about the purpose of life appear void. At this point, a person is no longer sure whether purpose and destiny matter.

It is not possible to tell whether the life of a person will be successful or not. For this reason, people live in anxiety and the fear of the unknown. The speaker says that this walk is personal and everything else does not matter. Besides, he describes that the direction where the road is leading has hardships. He uses the poetry style of symbolism to metaphorize the concept of destiny. “Did you really think you were just out for an aimless stroll?” by this question, the speaker implies that the direction of the journey is of person’s own making. The person decides which direction he or he wants to go. However, in the end, the choice pf direction will matter.
The speaker discourages the readers against placing too much focus on the problem. In his poem, he stipulates that a long focus on the horizon’s mountains makes them seem too impossible to overcome. “And those mountains on the horizon: the longer you look, the more forbidding they become, bleak and self-important”
