We all know that nowadays we are dealing with the world food crisis due to the fact that our food resources are extremely low in comparison with the number of people that live on this planet. Some say that the best solution to this issue would be to stop eating meat. In case you are wondering if the vegan diet is the solution to the world food crisis, you should have a look at this article for a better understanding of this aspect.
Myths and truths
When it comes to the food crisis, there are voices who say that vegan diet is a good solution for this problem and others who say that the situation will remain the same. Let's see how the situation really is, and you can draw your own conclusion. It is an official information that world's population is 7

Unfortunately, more than over a billion suffer from hunger. This happens due to the fact that some countries from this world are too poor to raise animals and even plant vegetables and they also don't have the right conditions to do that. Let's talk a bit about agricultural facts of life, in order to understand how the vegetarian diet can solve this problem. Most of the crops that are grown nowadays are used to feed the animals from animal farms. A big part is actually wasted due to the fact that for example we only get from a cow a big quantity of meat, but this animal actually eats a lot of grains during his life. You will probably be surprised to find out that more than half of the fish that is caught worldwide is being used to feed farm animals. Can you imagine how much food is wasted with 50 billion farm animals that are raised worldwide each year? No wonder we need to do something about that as soon as possible. In case we choose to become vegan, we are going to have plenty of food to feed all the people on this planet and even the next generations. It
I agree with the point of view of the article. I think that alternative diets are more sustainable for the environment and global population because they have lower emissions and take less resources. Another solution on top of those that Stehfest included is to not only regulate the production of meat but to also change subsidies to make healthy fruits and vegetables more affordable to low and middle income people and encourage healthy dietary habits.
Everybody loves meat. From steak to pork chops, it’s all good, just not good for you. In the past few decades, as our population has increased exponentially, so has our demand for food. Because of this, we have changed in the way we get our food. The way that the food is produced has changed and because of this the health risks increased and the environment is also affected. People need to know that there are consequences.
Being vegetarian or vegan is not only beneficial to the animals that are being slaughtered but it also beneficial to the earth and helps to reduce global warming. According to Wikipedia, there are more than seven billion people and out of those seven billion people only three hundred and seventy five million people are said to be vegetarian or vegan. This mass slaughter of animals and livestock is also one of the leading causes of global warming. People may think that the earth is slowly dying but that is not the case anymore as global warming has caught up with us. According to NASA, there are 406.94 parts per million of carbon di oxide in the atmosphere the highest it has ever been in 650000 years. The global temperature has risen by 1.7 °F and sixteen out of the seventeen warmest years on earth have been recorded since 2001. The arctic ice minimum has decreased by 13.2% per decade and in 2012 arctic summer sea ice shrank to the lowest extent on record. The global sea level has also grown by 3.4 millimeters per year and the global average sea level has risen nearly 178mm over the past 100 years. These statistics show you how quickly global warming and climate change are having an effect on earth and who knows what the stats will be in another 50 to 100 years the earth may become uninhabitable and humans will be the sole reason for this.
More than 150 billion animals are slaughtered each year. “Every year in America, without mercy, we murder 10 billion land animals, and 18 billion marine animals. Not for health, survival, sustenance or self-defense. People eat meat, cheese, milk and eggs for 4 reasons: habit, tradition, convenience, and taste.” (Yourofsky). Making people go vegan for a month or years, can significantly drop the high amount of animal cruelty that happen each day. This can cause an growth in the animal population. It can help animals live a happy life instead of being trap in a slaughterhouse waiting for their
With that, I hope that after an individual reads this essay they will feel either more educated on the topic and/ or proceed to look into veganism and all the right things it stands for. I, personally, am making an effort to switch from being vegetarian to vegan slowly but surely. Without a doubt, I strongly believe if more people follow a vegan diet and/or lifestyle it could have a huge impact on not only the world but everyone and everything living in it.
After having my heart shattered into pieces and taken out of my body. I finally decided it was time for me to get up. I couldn’t let this break up get the best of me. So in order to get my mind off the heartache, I decided that I needed to take this break up as a new beginning in which I would focus on myself and my goals. One of my goals was always to be able to get toned and build some muscle mass. In order to achieve this, I needed to learn how to meal prep since I have such a busy schedule from school and work. I went into Pinterest and saw a meal prep that I like, but it was vegetarian. I thought this was good because it was a challenge and it would help me keep my mind off the breakup. Worried just like many other people have about not eating meat, I started to do my research to make sure that I was eating properly and making sure I had enough protein. While browsing for more vegetarian recipes I came into a couple of videos about veganism. I found it interesting and I started to look up more videos and everything clicked on me. I cannot call myself an animal lover and eat meat or support any abuse towards animals. That’s when I decided to go vegan. My decision to go vegan, what people think about veganism and what being a vegan stands for me.
It is important to remember that one billion people on the planet are starving right now and that number is only increasing as the standard population is increasing as well. Seven billion humans on the planet drink 5.2 billion gallons of water and eats 21 billion pounds of food a day, but just 1.5 billion cows alone drink 45 billion gallons of water and eat 135 pounds of food a day (Keegan 1:11). It’s ridiculous that one billion humans are starving and almost fifty percent of the food we grow goes to animals so that we can feed less humans. But this is true, these are the facts, these are the issues. On average you can produce 15 times more protein than we have today if we used plant based proteins (Keegan, 1:15). This is important because we adore our new protein addicted age where people eat plentifully. There’s no way to support eating 9 ounces of meat a person a day (Which is what Americans are eating now) once the population reaches 9 billion it would be better for the world to live as vegetarians (Keegan, 1:18). I would go further to say that even dairy is unnecessary and actually creates problems for us. Cow’s milk for example has thinks such as growth hormones that are supposed to help a baby cow grow. Also cow dairy milk, frozen forms such as ice creams and separated forms such as cheeses causes a hormone imbalance that leads to man boobs and breast lumps along with other issues relating to hormone and thyroid imbalances. We don’t have enough land to generate food to give to animals so we can have that much meat, we don’t even have enough land to sustain these meat and dairy industries incline (Keegan, 1:21). That’s part of the reason we have issues such as desertification, loss of amazon, dust bowl and many other issues. This is not an environmental paper so I won’t get into that. To feed one full grown vegan it takes about 1/6th of an acre versus feeding a full grown meat eater
We have so many problems in our world today, but none of us want to address them because the solutions are not easy for some people. A problem our world faces today is obesity. Obesity could easily be cured by becoming a vegan. Another reason I have for the world to go vegan is the slaughter of animals. None of us would allow our dog or our dog’s puppies to be taken away and then slaughtered, so we shouldn’t kill any animals. We shouldn’t get to decide which animals get a happy life or which animals get their throats slit. The last major issue the world is facing today is global warming. Leonardo DiCaprio found out global warming is real by interviewing scientists who had found proof of global warming. One of their answers to global warming was becoming a vegan. The pollution set off from dairy and meat farms is so immense that producing them is hurting our world. To stop the obesity of the world, the slaughter of animals, and the global warming crisis, everyone should go vegan.
So, in conclusion, going vegan could help planet in many ways. Veganism does have its ups and downs but could eventually save the plant. It can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is better for the environment than raising cattle. As a result of veganism, the Earth could be heathy again. With going vegan, humans could save the planet from total destruction. Choose your choice
Introducing a vegan diet might seem like a lot to ask of people but as of right now it is the only contribution people should decide to give in order to sustain life and prosperity on this planet.
Veganism is not just a trend. It is after all a new approach to make your life and lifestyle free of cruelty, animal products and animal by-products. Adopting veganism cannot be achieved through changing the food habits. In fact, many of our everyday use products include animal-derived ingredients such as collagen, keratin and many other by-products. If you trying to adopt veganism, then take a closer look at your makeup items as well.
related to them. Vegan diets are proven to have health benefits for a lot of
Four questions for the reader: Do you want to decrease ruthless cruelty? Do you want to decrease global warming? Do you want to decrease destruction to the environment? Do you want to decrease health risks? As these yeses are being counted -- unanimity, right? -- a fifth question looms: are you willing to change from an omnivorous diet to a vegan diet? (McCarthy). Many people would answer no. The ethical thing to do when learning about the horrible effects of eating meat is to stop eating meat. However many people just close their eyes and ears to the truth, and continue with their ways. I argue that it is unethical to just ignore it, and that it would be beneficial for the human race to switch to a plant based diet because it is more healthful for us, it would decrease the mistreatment of animals, and it would decrease pollution and slow down global warming.
Imagine a world with no plants. A world where animals starve because their food has been used up. A world where everything is dying. An apocalyptic, barren world. This is the track the world is on right now due to how many people are eating vegetables these days and vegetarians and vegans are the worst offenders!
Vegetarianism is also another alternative that many consider will help feed more mouths. Since 1980, Brazil's meat consumption has more than doubled to 197 pounds a year and China's intake of meat has quadrupled to 109 pounds per person. It requires a lot of time and energy to produce animals for consumption. It takes about 7 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of beef, 6.5 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of pork, and 2.6 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of chicken. From an energy efficiency standpoint then it makes sense to phase out the “middleman” of meat as it means that more calories are received per person and not lost. Moreover, animal agriculture accounts for 50% of water use worldwide so by reducing this activity, more water can be
