Vegetables - It's What's for Dinner
James Garner, a washed-up hollywood celebrity, was paid by the meat board to tout beef as, "Real food for real people." In April of 1988, James Garner underwent a quintuple coronary artery bypass surgery (Realities 1989). This is just one of the shocking side effects of consumption of meat. "The practice of vegetarianism involves eating vegetable products and not consuming meat, fish, and in many instances, egg and dairy products." ("Vegetarianism"). Thus, a vegetarian diet can benefit individuals as well as the world. Vegetarianism is a very healthy, environmentally aware, animal friendly lifestyle.
There are three major types of vegetarians. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians do not eat meat, but will

Even so, Sufi Mystics (who are among the chief guides of Muslim spiritual life) recommend a vegetarian diet for spiritual seekers. Hindu and Buddhist sects also consider all animal life sacred and taught that human beings should avoid harming animals.
Doctor T. Colin Campbell, a Cornell University nutritional biochemist says, "we're basically a vegetarian species and should be eating a wide variety of plant foods and minimizing our intake of animal foods." He further stated, "in the next ten years, one of the things you're bound to hear is that animal protein...is one of the most toxic nutrients of all that can be considered" (Vegan Action). Such are the realities of meat consumption. The complete list of all known ailments caused by meat, dairy and egg consumption is as follows: strokes, heart disease, osteoporosis, kidney stones, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, stomach cancer, Endometrial cancer, diabetes, hypoglycemia, kidney disease, peptic ulcers, constipation, hemorrhoids, hiatal hernias, diverticulosis, obesity, gallstones, hypertension, asthma, salmonellosis, trichinosis, and irritable colon syndrome. The rise in blood cholesterol level from consuming one egg per day is 12 percent (Realities 1989). A diet that has a 50 percent reduction in the amount of meat consumed, can lessen the risk of heart attack by 45 percent. Greater still,
There are different kinds of vegetarians. Some vegetarians do not eat beef or red meet, but they eat chicken and fish. Some do not eat red meat, chicken and fish, but they eat cheese, butter, eggs, milk, and other animal products. Other vegetarians do not use anything that comes from an animal. Some
Positing that most of our major health issues, including heart disease, cancer and diabetes, can be prevented (and even in some cases reversed) by following a vegetables-and-whole-grains diet, this dense documentary would rather inform than entertain. Its hale heroes are the nutritional scientist T. Colin Campbell and the surgeon Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr., whose combined decades of research into the harmful effects of animal proteins are summarized, along with an extensive history of our worldwide dietary decline.
. . 30 to 40 percent of all cancers are caused by diet”(Davis and Melina 32). The consumption of meat has also been liked to Osteoporosis; “When you eat meat, your blood becomes acidic . . .In order to balance all the acidity, your bones come to the rescue by releasing some of their minerals”(Silverstone 17). “Diets”, in America revolve heavily around meat and dairy products; no wonder cancer is the second leading cause of death.
Some people choose a vegetarian diet for ethical and environmental reasons and some choose to be vegetarian because of food safety issues.
For some, the choice of Vegetarianism is decided based on religious beliefs or practices. Vegetarianism is compatible with the major world religions—the Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism) and the Abrahamic Religions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and Bahá'í Faith). Among these, it is most commonly practiced by those of the Buddhist, Christian and Islamic faith. Vegetarianism within the Buddhist culture is taught along with the “Four Noble Truths,” which focus on the acts of suffering. Since the Buddhist faith accepts the idea of karma, it is believed that in order to maintain a life of peace and happiness and remain free of suffering, one must refrain from the harming, injuring or killing of any living being. As part of the Christian faith, animal cruelty is forbidden. The teachings of Jesus Christ focus on the ideas of love, compassion, mercy and acceptance. Although the question of eating meat is not directly addressed in Christian doctrine it can be implied that since animals are a creation of God and the idea of love for all of God’s creations is heavily stressed in the Christian faith, then out of Christian love on should lead a life
“To prove this point, a fair review of the recent evidence indicates that red meat is one of the healthiest foods you can eat.” Many people studying red meat have found that some of the studies show that the data on red meat and colorectal cancer fail to prove a clear positive relationship between red meat consumption and colorectal cancer. Even more, researchers say that there is no consistent evidence proving that the saturated fat found in red meat can raise blood cholesterol levels. 350,000 participants participated in studies that found no relationship between saturated fat intake and coronary heart disease or cardiovascular disease. Another study, consisting of 60,000 Japanese women, found an odd relationship between saturated fat consumption and stroke: the more saturated fat meat eaters consumed, the lower their risk of stroke. “Many of these studies are proving that you can live your life understanding that including red meat in your diet isn’t taking you one step closer to an early grave.” (Kresser).
However, the link between the consumption of red meat and various health risks including colon cancer and CVD is yet to be established given that the different types of studies have been shown to contradict each other. The future of red meat consumption is therefore still a debatable issue that will require more conclusive studies in future. However, given that no study has been able to disapprove the notion that red meat can increase the risk of a variety of health concerns, it is recommended that consumers reduce their consumption or red meat to at least prevent chances of developing these health risks. According to experts, white meat obtained from such sources as chicken and fish can be used as substitutes given that they have not been associated with these risks. However, they should also be consumed in moderation. Consumers can also acquire proteins and other nutrients from such plant foods as peas and beans among a variety of other
It also affect many people’s health. Numerous research shows that human diseases come from eating meat such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. Among the three stated human diseases, the most prominent disease is cancer for there are different types of it, which are quite related with one another. According to the Harvard Chan School, there were 9,464 number of deaths from cancer due to constant eating of meat (Red meat consumption, 2014). This varies from the age, gender, family history, and other risk factors accounted with cancer. Meat consumption is associated with Colorectal cancer since recent studies have concluded the higher rate of cancer

A nice juicy steak is a good choice for Americans but in other cultures it is against religious beliefs to have steak for any meal. Many people think that if they had vegetarian diet they would save the live of the animals, and it is not an ethical that people produce meat and other things from the animals. That’s a wrong thought, because there is a lot of people aren’t
Numerous studies have shown meat-free diets have a plethora of health benefits such as helping reduce risk of heart disease and cancer and controlling diabetes. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of deaths in the United States, one which could be prevented with a low cholesterol diet such as vegetarianism or veganism. The website for American Heart Association says that in order to reduce risk of heart disease people should, “Use up as many calories as you take in.” Gidon Eshel and Pamela Martin, two reporters for the University of Chicago News Office, conducted a study in an article titled "A Vegetarian Diet Is More Energy Efficient Than a Meat Diet"that showed that the vegetarian diet is the most energy efficient

Although most of the population believes that meat and dairy products are necessary to the human health, it is not. It’s killing us by increasing the risk of getting kidney stones, cancer, and type two diabetes. Since childhood, most individuals have been raised on eating large quantities of animal flesh and animal products. It’s burned into their minds that they need the meat and dairy for nutrients, to grow and maintain strong bones. With society also putting into their young minds, that plant based foods are just not enough to keep them healthy. For years, researchers have shown that the standard diet, focusing on large quantities of
