Working within the Veterans Affairs work-study program has many different avenues that interest me. I have found that I have a great deal of passion working in customer service and the office environment. I feel that with my prior training and experience I would be a valuable asset within the organization. I am a very self-motivated person that is very dedicated to my job and to my coworkers. My prior experience has been in active duty Air Force where I served a 9 year enlistment before separating honorably as an E-5/ Staff Sargent. When I made the decision to separate from the Air Force, I wanted to be a part of an organization that worked for military veterans. Furthermore, I have great interest in being involved in the Student Veteran Organization. I feel that I would have the opportunity to be a bigger part in the organization, if I worked in the Veteran Affairs Work-Study program. I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration with interest in Human Resources. This job …show more content…
Specific skills I received experience is: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, creating official documents, document control, written/ electronic documentation, and checklist creation. One experience worth explaining while working in the active duty military was the daily interaction I had with all the military branches. My military career required joint planning, and face-to-face communication with all the military branches. I have also deployed with the Army in a joint combat mission in Iraq. While off duty, I have created many friendships with Army, Navy, and Marine personnel, due to being stationed in various multi-force bases. I believe that my knowledge of how things are done and the lifestyles of military members in every branch of service will have a great advantage in being able to effectively communicate with various types of service
The Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) is a public organization that is government provided. The organization funding is produce through taxes. The executive branch of the agency is located in Washington DC and is headed by Secretary of Veteran Affairs. There are Veteran Affairs Offices located in all 50 states, including American Samoa, District of Columbia, Guam, North Marianas Islands, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands. It ranks number two in the United States federal department with over 200,000 employees.
I agree with you. The Department of Veteran Affairs has failed many veterans. Moreover, as you stated, with the bureaucratic system that exists, and each change within legislation the agency has had a very difficult time adapting to the change. Furthermore, I attest to your thoughts on these changes in legislation, regulations, political influences, and unrealistic public expectations do contribute to the ineffectiveness of the programs offered by any one of the federal agencies.
I am currently employed as a Program Assistant within the Veteran Administration at the Vet Center. My duties and responsibilities entail greeting past and present members of the military as they enter the center. The Vet Center was initially created to welcome home Vietnam Veterans that arrived home and felt very stigmatized when they arrived. The Vet Center offers readjustment counseling today and in the past to those veterans. It also offers readjustment counseling to other combat veterans as well. In the center we offer counseling, outreach and referral services to these veterans and their families.
My grandfather, Larry, served in WWII. He enlisted and stationed at Camp Polk. He went through places like New Guinea and the Philippines during the war.
Thank you for serving. I can not tell how glad I am that you served in either the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, or the Coast Guard. From any of the wars, WWI,WWII,The Korean War, Persian Gulf War, The War On Terrorism (Afghanistan), the Iraq War, and the Texas Revolution. Thank you for serving. I cannot say how thankful I am that you made the ultimate sacrifice. I have no idea what you have been through in war. I am so grateful that you fought so we could celebrate veterans day, memorial day and all other holidays that only the U.S celebrates.
SSgt Toledo-Mercado, you have been in the Air Force now since 2010, and a SSgt since February 2016. You have successfully completed all Career Field Education and Training (CFETP) requirements for your 3D0X2 Cyber System Operations Craftsman (7-Level) Training. Based on my observations, our open dialogue and your vision, I assess you are a Flexer. You do not necessarily fit the mold of a Creator, Advancer, Refiner or Executor; however, you are able to adapt to the needs of our team. Furthermore, you are open-minded and understand the different members of our team which is vital to accomplish our mission. Based on my assessment and my understanding of the Adaption-Innovation (A-I) Theory, I have determined you fulfill the role of an Adapter. Some indications that have led me to my assessment are: you prefer to operate within the boundaries, you
Barrio Logan is a neighborhood located half an hour from the border. This neighborhood was featured in Gangland, a TV show about dangerous gangs in America. A neighborhood where industries and factories shared the same air as people 's homes. At one point, Barrio Logan had one of the highest asthma related emergency room visits in California. The living conditions that residents were subjected to were under what we would consider a dignified quality of life. This is attributed by many, including myself, to the lack of educated residents in Barrio Logan: only 34% of Barrio Logan residents 25 and older have a high school diploma and less than 4% have a bachelor 's degree or higher. I am one of the few people of Barrio Logan with a high school diploma. I will also be one of the few to graduate from college. I was privileged enough to receive the education I obtained. It is because of that education that I understand that my community deserves better, not better than everyone else just better than what we have experienced. Through schooling, I have learned that I have the potential to effect change. I am a strong believer that education is the great equalizer and all I want is to provide access to higher education for all. Interning for a federal agency or corporation will expose me to the systems that allow for our country to function, providing the knowledge I need to impact the lives of
I am a student with a unique passion to help Military Veterans returning from the war and there will be a growing need for counselors in the military as they begin to return from war. This program will require a great amount of personal commitment and I am willing to make the necessary sacrifices. Argosy is choosing a qualified candidate who will take this program seriously and professionally.
Dan Lipinski once stated, “On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.” The Department of Veterans Affairs is run by the government and provides the health care and benefits to former military service men. The VA, short for The Department of Veterans Affairs, should provide more care for United States veterans after the war to ensure their physical and mental health. The VA is taking rights away from veterans due to the lack of funding, along with their inability to be easily accessible, and their minimal number of mental health programs.
The aforementioned jobs are those that require confidence and strength so admitting weakness or asking for help is not something that comes naturally. It is imperative to implement programs in more areas besides VA hospitals and clinics. Locations such as colleges and work places that are involved in raising awareness and letting these people know they are not the first to struggle. Many colleges such as TCC have made great strides in having departments devoted solely to Veterans. Some larger companies take pride in their willingness to hire Veterans but could take it a step further by implementing a mentorship program to recognize and alleviate the unique struggle in their adaptation.
Coming home to nothing; no help, no support, no job, and no one to talk to about their personal experiences while being deployed. This type lifestyle is something veterans face on a day to day basis. Transitioning back into society can be difficult, but we as Americans should help them make this extensive change. The introduction of the book For Love of Country, written by Howard Schultz and Rajiv Chandrasekaran inspired me to look more into how the American society helps those who sacrifice their lives so our lives can be free. The introduction also helped with the theme of veterans and one topic question. What are the common repercussions of veterans leaving the army and what can American society do to help them?
The U.S Department Veteran’s Affairs (VA) provides a wide range of benefits for our service members, veterans and their families. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to include compensation, disability, education, and home loans. Throughout this paper I will discuss these benefits and the eligibility required to receive them. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based on type of discharge received through the military which is normally all discharges under other than dishonorable conditions.
I truly believe the Navy's most valuable assets are its people, requiring quality training, positive role models, and strong leadership. As a commissioned officer, I will combine my knowledge from the enlisted and officer communities to help shape and develop Sailors and Marines requisite to executing our mission requirements. This opportunity will allow me to become a more tactically-minded war fighter and the authority to make key decisions at precise times. More importantly, I will help sustain the Navy's leadership requirements and uphold the superb reputation of our elite Mustang community.
Upon completion of my bachelor’s degree program, I will try to seek employment with my hospital human resources department as a generalist. I currently work with staffing and with a bachelor’s degree in management; I believe I would be ready to move up to a higher level. The transition from staffing to human resources I believe would be smooth, because I am familiar with the hiring process and I am also knowledgeable with dealing with outside staffing agencies.
In the military, a person will also be able to learn valuable leadership skills. Coupled with training, an individual can take those leadership skills and become significantly more marketable to civilian employers. In fact, there are places that will hire people just by virtue of them being a veteran, in general, as long as they are discharged and/or retired, honorably! As a veteran, the veteran will receive an automatic five to ten point increase, also known as “Preference Points,” for many of the tests or exams that are required for federal government jobs that they may consider for employment (USA Jobs).
