Every year since 1919 on November 11th, America celebrates Veterans Day. However, do our people truly understand the meaning behind putting on that army camouflage uniform. Now, the term hero is used very loosely and it is losing its meaning throughout the nation. In any case, it is important to realize the actual reasoning behind why our veterans are America’s heroes. “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave”-Elmer Davis. One of the last lines of the national anthem is one of the most significant and sometimes, America’s citizens forget the understanding and reasoning behind those few couple of words. Some of these veterans of the nation risk their lives for others and sometimes in the process,
We honor our veterans because every day they put their lives on the line to protect our country; to preserve the freedom of this great land. Without question, without hesitation, these brave people come forth every day to help defend the 350 million people
Veterans are important because they have given us our freedom from tyrants for the past 237 years. Vets fought against the oppressors from of England during the War of Independence and the War of 1812. They continue to fight today! The estimated amount of casualties from the War of Independence was around 50,000! That means over 50,000 people died to stop England’s tyranny, in just one of two wars! In attacking Americans in the War of 1812, England sent ten times as many troops in just the last six months, than they had during all the years before. That is how much the greedy British wanted to steal the United States of America from us! Had the Veterans not stood their ground, we would all be French
Our flag stands tall and people say that it blows with the last breathe of every soldier who has given their life to our country. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day on the eleventh month in 1918 an armistice occurred. This soon became a federal holiday in 1938. Veterans are important to our past and future because they stand up for what is right. They put their life on the line to help defend our country. Although they have families of their own, they have stepped up to defend everyone elses family in the U.S. too. Veterans fight for our country and we should be very grateful for them.
It is important to remember how much of daily life is affected by the work of veterans. Walking on streets, going to school, eating at restaurants, and hanging out with friends all depend on the service of veterans. They may not receive the proper amount of recognition from the younger generations, but their work is appreciated. In actuality, they gained vital information that can be shared with the future generations. They have gained respect and honor for their duty for our
Guns firing, soldiers yelling, we battle fiercely at Fort McHenry. Day breaks, and stars and stripes wave in the air. The American Flag stands for freedom, hope, equality, opportunity, and democracy. The flag represents the American Dream. We may not always realize it, but our flag also represents hope for a brighter and better tomorrow. Standing for the Pledge of Allegiance, my classmates and I don’t always think about what we’re saying or what we’re doing. Sometimes we just don’t recognize what the flag, the pledge, or even America means to people. The thing is, I feel so fortunate to live in a country like the United States; I just don’t know how fortunate I am sometimes. Some people, people who are not as fortunate as I am, dream of coming
Every year on November 11 we honor and remember all U.S. veterans who fought for our country and freedom. We express our gratitude, and reflect on the sacrifices that were made from all the men and women throughout history. Veterans Day has been an annual holiday since 1938, and originated on November 11, 1919 after WWI (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). Veterans Day is not just like any other American holiday. It expresses our thanks, as American citizens, to all of those that came and fought before us to keep the United States a free country. Veterans Day has evolved over the years from being a day to honor the veterans of World War I, to becoming a staple in the American calendar so that citizens
Veterans day as we know it is important to all American citizens and we should all know how to celebrate, and know the affect of what veterans have fought for, and what Veterans day actually stands for and how we should respect the day as it is. Teenagers in middle school and even high school don’t really think about the importance of Veterans day and what it really means to be a Veteran, being a teenager I know that the teens in our grade don’t even mention the day until it is mentioned by an adult. Usually to celebrate there is a parade held in New York city on Saturday November 11. During the parade there are about 25,000 people participating in the parade. Most people around the world are more concerned
Why are veterans considered heroes? I believe that veterans are heroes because they willingly put there life on the line for other people in our country. They left their families to help the rest of the country. Just thinking about leaving my family is heartbreaking. I look at the veterans i know and wonder how they did it, how hard it was for them to leave there all the time ,to miss holidays and birthday. It had to be even harder to only get to see your kids and wife every couple months or even two or three times a year.this is why i think veterans are heroes.
Why are veterans considered heroes? In my perspection any person who would be willing to stand and fight for our counrty is a heroe. They take chances we woulnt with their lives on the line.Veterans take risks and face danger and assigned dangerous diffrent tasks and operations. They go through training and horrible conditions while we relax at home.In the country their protecting for us so we may say what we want, believe in what we want live our own way of life .Yes we might have taxes or overly dramatic canadates or political respresentitives but what do they stand for? They all stand for us “We the people”. They protect the very foundation we sit upon, Our democratic stool of freedom. The horrid things that thrive in other countries are starved
Veterans day is a major holiday ,because that they had fought for our rights ,since ww ll and ll. Since this is a honor of retiring soldiers in the u.s Army (united States) and the Army of the Lord’ , Neutrons are the real heroes to our country and our community , they are the ones we look up to and by how they supports us , we should support them so that one day they will be in their footsteps .Veterans gives us courage , strength , wisdom .-and one thing they is a remembrance of our Nation and God’s nation , jehovah our heavenly father -server . -veterans - is people who did their job to do to provide for us it’s a rare thing and common thing.
The reason for the NFL protests are now being twisted. However, disrespect for our flag, our national anthem, and our military was the 'original intent'.
When asked to think of veterans, images of historical war heroes are often the first to flash into someone’s mind. So many know the history of Dan Daly, a famous Marine Sergeant who endangered himself to save his wounded comrades and was recommended for the Medal of Honor three separate times. There is Molly Pitcher and Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen and even George Washington. One might even think of more contemporary heroes like Santiago Erevia, Melvin Morris or most recently, USN Seal Edward Byers. All these heroes are famous for being battle hardened generals and masters of the battlefield or commanders on the high seas. It is almost universally agreed upon that these people are
They are one among us, but they are not average American citizens. Despite their absence of red capes and shining armor, these superheros continuously insure our freedom. Without their courageous sacrifices America wouldn't be “the land of the free and the home of the brave”. Privileges like walking a park or going to school wouldn't exist. These men and women we recognize as veterans provide their blood, sweat and tears in return for our freedom and independence. November 11th honors their dedication to this country.
3:00 P.M., the frigid rain darted down similar to ice shards and I could hear the merciless howl of the wind. Every step soaked my shoes as I walked down the flooded brick road, I felt myself beginning to drag my feet through the icy water. In spite of the weather, today is quite a memorial day, my war acquaintance back approximately 40 years ago has died peacefully in his deathbed, even the weather reflects the atmosphere flawlessly. 15 minutes till the funeral starts, I began to sprint and on every step a splash of water shot up, soaking my pants.
I’ve heard a lot about you these past couple of weeks; I bet you’re glad to hear that the allure of the anthem hasn’t died out yet… even though you’ve been dead for about 200 years. Time flies right? As a patriot and daughter of two veterans, your eloquent portrayal of the US as a resilient military victor, united under one star spangled banner, has always resonated with me. However, I recently learned about the unsung verses of your piece and thought it was my responsibility to enlighten you on some of the changes that have transpired in the past 173 years.
