After the Romans, the largest advancement did not come until the 1700’s the treatment of animals was solely done by blacksmiths. There was little knowledge about disease and how to best treat them. The development of veterinary science and the founding of the first School of Veterinary Medicine in Lyons-France helped to further the field. This was brought about thru understanding the anatomy of animals and even people. Initially the Veterinarian profession was centered in horses and this remained the focus for many years influenced by the needs of the Armies during this time.
