He wears a blue cape. He flies over the tallest buildings. He saves the helpless child. This image is the common ideal of a hero. The concept of a childhood hero displays a character that children look up to -- or their role model. In fact, Michael Sullivan and Anre Venter proved through a study that heroes are often role models (482.) However, it takes certain characteristics to be a role model. For example, Victoria Soto, Chris Kyle, and Dr. Rick Hodes demonstrate bravery, sacrifice for others, and compassion: traits it takes to be a real hero. One example of a hero is Victoria Soto, a teacher from Newton, Connecticut who was held at gunpoint in her classroom. She qualifies as a hero in many ways. First, she exhibited extreme bravery when …show more content…
The first being his unending bravery. Chris was a United States Navy Seal and has been referred to as the most lethal sniper in US history with over 160 kills confirmed with the US military (Eastwood). He did not take his job lightly and not only served in Iraq, but went willingly. As a US Navy seal he was one the most wanted snipers in history and witnessed some of the most gruesome and unimaginable things possible. Yet, he remained brave and continued to help others. Some of the most horrific acts included innocent people being killed for helping the soldiers and children being tortured and murdered. While serving in Iraq, Chris lost two of his teammates who he also considered his best friends. Chris never questioned why or what he was doing fighting in Iraq. He continued to show tremendous bravery never letting fear overcome him or his actions. Because he was able to stay in control and focus on each task at hand he was able to perform bold and brave tasks, which protected the country he was loyal to and proud to be a part of. There is no room for fear in war or one of your fellow soldiers could be injured or even killed. One reason he is considered a brave hero today is because he kept going never looking back while experiencing more than anyone can
The person who I consider to be a hero is my mom, FBI Special Agent Jill Stillman. She is more than a typical mom because she protects and serves our country everyday, but first makes sure to be up at 6:00am to wake me and my brother up so we can dress, eat breakfast and get to the bus stop. She always puts us first before herself along with my two dogs and cat and then she gets ready for work. I consider her a hero because after the 9/11 attacks, she helped capture and eliminate Osama Bin Laden. She has investigated criminal and counterterrorism cases and early in her career, she found evidence against the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing subject Tim McVey to send him to prison. She has been a Special Agent for 25 years and volunteered to go
Hannah Duston was a big example of Heroism. Hannah was born in 1657. Hannah and her husband Thomas Duston from Massachusetts were attacked by Indians in there town Haverhill. As they were attacked Hannah's husband fled to save there 7 kids and hannah didn't leave because she was in bed rest from just giving birth. Hannah and her nurse got captured by Natives while the newborn got its head bashed against a tree and house got burnt to the ground. Hannah and her nurse both turned into slaves and experienced lots of torture and harsh living inviroments. The Indians started moving and were beyond Penacook where they had some really brutal things done to them. This is when Hannah descided it was time to escape and she had help from her nurse and
Another story that shows someone being heroic is The Underground Railroad. In the story there is a woman called Harriet Tubman.Harriet Tubman escaped from Philadelphia and started working on a railroad so she can go back and free her family. But after she got her family she kept on going back to get more slaves. They went from station to station until they got there.
While on active duty, Chris served as a Navy Seal, in a special forces unit primarily as a Scout Sniper. Chris was a highly decorated special forces operator with top secret clearance, who served 4 combat deployment to Iraq and is credited as the deadliest sniper in American history, with 160 confirmed kills. His exposure to combat has come from fighting in some of the major battles of the war in Iraq, in where he experienced the loss of fellow service members
operations as a US Navy Seal. Chris is the most lethal sniper in US. military history. With over 160
Chris states that his only regret was that he did not save even more people. The movie American Sniper is an accurate representation of when you put your mind to doing something, great things will come out of it. Chris shows exactly that throughout this movie, because even though being a Navy SEAL was not his first choice, he put his mind to it and did great things. Courage of the United States soldiers from all branches is the greatest in the world and it shows throughout their
A hero is a risk taker, brave, and confident human being. Heros aren’t justin comics they are all around us. Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas are both good examples of heroic people because they risk what they have and sometimes themselves to help others. In this case Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation, and Frederick douglas with freeing himself and getting others freed too.
Arthur Ashe once said, “True heroism is not the urge to surpass others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” Someone who stays strong in their heart and shows selflessness towards others even though he or she could be in the risk of personal risk and danger is what makes a true hero. Anyone could be recognized and admired as a hero if they could, but there's a big gap in front of that because it adds on with the hero showing compassion in spite of the obstacles that they are faced with. It could make someone more heroic than he or she ever was by just showing selflessness to others. Clara Barton put herself in danger to treat the wounded during the Civil War and not only that, but she founded what is known today the American Red Cross (History.com). Harriet Tubman helped many slaves to freedom in the north, also placing herself in peril. (History.com). Florence Nightingale, who was a nursing innovator did the similar as Clara Barton, but during the Crimean War (History.com & Biography.com). All of these women stressed the idea of helping others before they did so for themselves, but that took bravery to do so. Whether the challenges that a hero has to endure, a true hero puts others before themselves no matter what the position he or she is set in.
To me a hero is someone who can overcome trials and tribulations. A hero is brave enough to face the world and help others in a time of need. Langston Hughes is a good example of a hero because he helped his community and other young people in the world.
He was a coward for raping his wife. Doesn't seem like a war hero to me.
This took a lot of courage because she didn’t know what would happen after she tackled Charles.
Heroes can do the right thing, however, occasionally the right thing isn’t the same to everybody. Frederick Douglass is a good example because he had never pleased everyone when campaigning or helping other African Americans, many people referred to him as a hero and others as criminal. Douglass was a leader, he still helped others, even while people pushed hate towards him and discouraged his work. He had stood in front of the people he couldn’t please and led the others with his speeches “I remained firm, and, according to my resolution” said Douglass himself in his autobiography. Another example would be
Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life.
A hero is someone that shows courage and bravery and is admired for their actions. Sometimes, a hero is someone unexpected and would never have been thought to be a hero by anyone because of who they are, or what and where they come from. One example of unexpected heroism, is from three greasers, Dallas Winston, Johnny Cade, and Ponyboy Curtis from The Outsiders. Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy can be considered heroes because of some actions and choices they made.
Heroes are not always people who lead marches or do things for their country. For example policemen, firefighters, nurses, lifeguards etc. are heroes everyday because they take the time to save lives. When they’re going through a challenge or trying to overcome a conflict they always have courage. These people risk their own life to save someone else’s. To be more specific Dr. Ginger Holt from Dallas had saved a little boy’s leg. She was confident and determined to finding out what went wrong in the boy’s leg and went through many procedures looking at the tests.
