Imagine going to school knowing that if you were behind on something, you would get hit. Imagine only being able to see your parents in the morning and at night, and being stuck with a nanny, who would sometimes be strict and yell or beat you. Imagine being stuck in a room all day after school, and not being able to leave. This was the life of a child of the estate during the Victorian Era. Although the child’s family may have been rich, that doesn’t mean that the child will live a happy life, free of troubles and worries. Although some aspects of a child’s life were happy and not worrisome including their variety of food choice and expensive clothing, children during the Victorian Era usually had very sad and depressing lives because of the …show more content…

For example, they would eat huge amounts of food, and waste it, at times, while the poor’s food choice was very limited (Victorian Food). At the beginning of the Victorian Era, food choice for the wealthy was that which was in season and grown by local producers. However, later on in the Victorian Era, when railways and steam ships began to be of use, the Victorians imported different foods (Victorian Food). Rich children in the farming industry were always able to eat meat and vegetables, and fresh milk was almost always available. Other times, families bought food from street vendors, who would sell rice milk, ginger beer, and sheep’s trotters. Other popular foods during the Victorian Era included beef, mutton, pork, bacon, cheese, eggs, bread, potatoes, rice oatmeal, milk, veggies, flour, sugar, treacle, jam, and tea (Victorian Food). Although they had many options, wealthy children typically had meat daily, along with cheese and bacon for their dinner. Victorians also believed that because school was starting up for children, it was important to feed them healthy and filling breakfasts, and it was seen as the most important meal of the day, which is similar to today. This breakfast was kind of like a modern day hotel breakfast and included bacon and eggs (Victorian Food). We can clearly see that, because of these reasons, wealthy children ate very well during the Victorian Era. Food was one of the things that rich children did not have to worry
