In America today there are thousands of memorials, these memorials help with people to honor an individual or a group of people. Memorials are important to recognize people and their impact on the world. Memorials are important in day to day life whether it was just a single person who did something great, or a whole group of great guys and girls whom lost their lives. In the case of the vietnam memorial it is a group of people in fact a group of 58,307 names, the number of names are still being added. These people who have their names on this wall commiserating them all served and died from their service in the war in vietnam. The reason to construct this memorial was to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives. There are people
No war in American history not fought on American soil can claim to have as big an impact on America as a whole than the Vietnam War. The social and political divisions caused by the war changed America as a nation and especially changed those who fought in it. Despite the sacrifices of these veterans, both those who returned and those who did not, Americans on both sides forgot or even vilified those who fought, either as losers or as tokens of an unjust war. To remedy this problem through reconciliation and honor those who died in Vietnam, a group of veterans campaigned to build a national memorial in Washington, D.C. From its original design to the present
The purpose of many monuments is to honor and protect the legacy of some of America's greatest heroes. Kirk Savage in the book Monument
The memorial has a V-shape. One end pointing the Washington Monument, to remind us the unity of our nation while the other end pointing to the Lincoln Memorial that signifies the Civil War when our nation was divided into two.
These memorials are in memory of the fallen soldiers and sometimes the soldiers that made it out alive.
As time passed veterans gained the respect they deserved after fighting in the war. Veterans from the Vietnam war come to see the names of the people they fought alongside, students to respect the people who died for the country, and families to mourn the loss of their loved ones. The memorial was made to represent the people who sacrificed their lives trying to protect our nation. Countless veterans were treated with disrespect and disgust for all the trauma they had suffered, but now are treated how they should
The Veterans Freedom Flag Memorial, near Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, is a memorial dedicated in 2007, to everyone who has fought, died and sacrificed for the safety and freedom of our country. War memorials are important things because they honor the lives and sacrifices of those who have protected freedom for hundreds of years. They serve as sentimental representations and/or reminders for some. Pathways into the emotional and physical pain that so many deal with everyday. In short they are important things to have in our society.
There is a lot that goes into the making of a memorial. A lot to be considered before they can start thinking about what the memorial is going to be; a huge bronze statue or a plaque with their name on it, and where. Controversy is also something that needs to be thought about in deciding if it would be a good idea or not to have a memorial of someone or something. Those factors should depend on the space they are working on, as well as where, and the fact that sometimes it’s best to stay away from the subject as the public may not agree.
The Vietnam Memorial is a very effective memorial. The main goal of Maya Lin for choosing this design is for everyone that goes there is to resolve and come to terms with their losses. It is a quiet place meant for personal reflection and private reckoning (Source D). This is why she chose the simple, clean design of it being black with white letters. Black can be considered a very depressing color, so it adds to the effect and the feeling that this memorial should give someone. The thing that makes it very special is that it honors the dead instead of the living. This memorial has every single name of a fallen soldier that fought in the Vietnam War. Also, the design is good because it is different from all the other memorials in D.C. Every other memorial recognizes the great
Is a good monument or memorial all about looks, or is it about the contextual meaning behind it. A monument’s size, location, materials and more are all considerations when planning and creating a memorial to the past. The audience of a monument/memorial site is not as important as it’s location and funding.
In order for a monument to get a greater value of importance the placement of the monument is crucial. The placement of a monument is not only important because of how populated a place is but also the relation between the place and the monument. Even the smallest consideration to detail can make a difference in the awe a monument inspires. For example, Source G states “The vietnam veterans
Iwo Jima is the most important memorial to me because it represents the turning point for America in World War II when we finally started taking charge over the Japanese. Iwo Jima was an amazingly fought battle where the Americans lost 26,000 marines, but the Japanese only lost 22,000 of their men. Yet, we still won. It was an incredible victory for us. It is the only battle the marines won with their own casualties exceeding the enemies casualties.
The Pearl Harbor Memorials are of great importance because they are a reminder of what happened in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. When people visit these memorials they are seeing where World War II began for the United States. These memorials explain the events that took place when the Japanese Naval Forces bombed Pearl Harbor. In addition, they remind us of how countless American lives were lost on that day. These memorials are of great historical importance to the United States.
America has made an obsession out of remembering past events by making monuments, like the Lincoln Monument. These type monuments can be used to teach anyone what their country has been through. This is a method that has been in use since long before America was founded, but America is not immune to the influence of Memorials. America uses memorials to commemorate fallen soldiers, influential leaders, founders of peace, and some of the nations most devastating moments, like 9-11. Some of the most important, and well known memorials in the world can be found in America, such as the Washington monument, Lincoln monument and many others.
After the Civil War, there were several changes that needed to be rethought and made. Some people believed that the changes were detrimental, and some believed that the changes were beneficial. The changes in American society from the end of the Civil War to the turn of the century were primarily beneficial. These changes created new opportunities for Americans through advances in transportation, creation of the New South, establishment of Memorial Day, implementation of individualization, and immigration.
