I agree with you as you said Laura, that Vietnamese patient may smile easily and often, regardless of underlying emotion, so a smile cannot automatically be interpreted as happiness or agreement. Vietnamese are very polite and does not usually ask any question even they did not understand, they may simple listen and answer yes in respect. They prefers home food and eat rice even they are diabetic patient.
Health care providers need to be culturally competent and aware of the assumptions that their own culture makes in order to effectively provide health care services with cultural sensitivity. What we deem appropriate, may cause extreme discomfort for some and we often make these assumptions unknowingly. Effective and culturally appropriate communication is the first step in achieving equity of access to health care. Non-verbal cues such as hand gestures, eye contact, smiling and other mannerisms differ between cultures and often affect how successful your health care interaction will be. (Fanany, R. 2012, p.232)
Yes, I do believe as Americans, we should organize for reproductive justice rather than just settling on abortion rights, birth control and reproductive rights. The reason I believe we should just settle for reproductive justice because, it’s helpful for women who have suffered greatly. It is dangerous for us if we don’t let women think for themselves. For example, women who don’t receive a good quality of education will never be able to have a bright future for themselves and their children.
Patient satisfaction is a driving force in today’s health care system. Incorporating the patient in their care will help with the patients healing process as well as encouraging the patient to be more compliant with their prescribed care. Bedside reporting is a practice that some organizations have incorporated in their standards of care. The patients care does not stop when the nurse’s shift ends. Therefore, it is important for the patient’s information to be conveyed accurately to the oncoming nurse. Conducting shift reports at the bedside allows the oncoming nurse to both visualize and interact with the patient much sooner than if the nurse had received report in another manner. Furthermore, bedside reporting allows the patient to interact with both nurses; and allows them to see that their care is being properly managed. This type of reporting also allows the oncoming nurse to ask questions, as other methods of shift reporting limits the oncoming nurse from interacting and asking questions of the off going nurse. Patient satisfaction as well as accurate transfer of information and patient safety is a crucial part in providing quality patient care.
At UCF Community Care Center, our main focus and concern is our patients. Our main goal is to ensure that each and every one of our patients is satisfied upon leaving our office. “Patient satisfaction is an important and commonly used indicator for measuring the quality in health care. Patient satisfaction affects clinical outcomes, patient retention, and medical malpractice claims. It affects the timely, efficient, and patient-centered delivery of quality health care” (Prakash, 2010).
Have you even have a pain which you want to escape from or cover? In Tan Le’s Ted Talk, she says “My mother suffered from nightmares all about the boat.” A lot of people have some spiritual pains which they don’t want to remember or heal, so they try to escape from those pain. In Birds of Paradise Lost, written by Andrew Lam, it shows how Vietnamese immigrants escape from their pain in humor, denial, and suicide after or during the Vietnamese War.
Since the first documented arrival of Japanese immigrants to the United States (U.S.) in 1843, the population of Asian Americans living the in the U.S. has steadily risen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2011 roughly 18.2 million Asians lived in the U.S. The C.D.C. estimates that by the year 2050, there will be more than 40.6 million Asians living in the United States – accounting for approximately 9.2% of the total U.S. population (Asian American Populations, 2013). Due to the rise in the Asian population within the U.S., it is important for all healthcare providers to have
Tet is hugely important day with Vietnamese people. It begin on January 1 , lunar calendar and a first day of the new year and last 3 days. To prepare for those days, everybody often buy more stuff such as : food, beverage, flows... beside people also clean and decorate the house. Especially in these days each family must have cakes which is made from glutinous rice. On the first day of the new year people usually go to temple to pray for peace and happiness their family. After they visit their relation , their friend. An indispensable thing in these days is that the adults often donate money for kids or grandfather donate money for you , your parents donate money for you... according to the belief if they donate for each other then they will
The Orthodox Jewish population is made up of 13.3 million people worldwide, 6.5 million of them residing in the United States (LeElef, 2002). The Jewish culture is not simply belonging to the religious organization, but being one of “their” people. Culture is a group of people that share common history, ethical teachings, language, beliefs and values. As a nurse, is it important to be culturally aware, or able to stand aside and be aware of cultural values, beliefs, and perceptions of our patients and ourselves. It can be a challenge for nursing to incorporate culture sensitive care when not familiar to it, but often times it is very important to the client. Culture can change how illness is perceived, managed and cared for. It is important to be culturally aware so that nursing care is done correctly, while respecting the client’s wishes (Lynam, 2006). When nurses are culturally sensitive with their care, the clients feel respected and feel that they are a part of the care they are given (Stolovy, 2012).
Your post is very thorough! I enjoyed reading your example of specific diets in relation to culture, and I would like to share how we incorporate patients cultural beliefs in my hospital .
It is with no doubt that proper and correct prescription fosters positive patient outcomes, especially among patients with chronic conditions due to their long-term use of medications. Lack of proper communication between the pharmacist and the care-provider can potentially compromise outcomes due to improper prescription and medication use. In this regard, the choice of the clinical question (PICOT question) is primarily intended to promote quality and safety for the chosen population. As DiCenso, Guyatt & Ciliska (2014) assert, when it comes to answering a clinical question, it is usually prudent to use studies that have high levels of evidence that can be used to influence practice. As such, I may term your choice of the study article as prudent and quite promising in as far as answering this clinical question is concerned. The choice of an experimental study is agreeably wise since it shows causal relationships between different variables-hence making it easy to draw accurate conclusions that can be used to inform evidence-based practice.
Imagine being sentenced to death by your government; the institution that is supposed to protect your rights, and then waiting years for the killing blow to land. Imagine the constant fear and anxiety you would endure; nobody deserves that torment. The death penalty is still legal in many parts of America and dozens of people are killed every year. In Canada, the death penalty has been abolished since 1976 and there is little support for reinstatement. This is not the case in America, while many states have stopped using capital punishment there are still thirty-one that continue to follow the practice. These states claim that it is cheaper than imprisoning someone for life, that it acts as a deterrent, and is a just punishment for atrocious
This study aimed to pursue expectations and patient satisfaction. The perseverance of this study was to thoroughly and judgmentally evaluate the research to govern the degree of satisfaction with surgical patients that have bone or knee problems and issues linked with satisfaction. The study results specified that of the patients were satisfied with the nursing care excellence depending on what their prior expectations were. If the patients had high expectations of what the nursing care equality should be, they were generally not satisfied. The study determined that expectations had a major influence on patient expectations and outcomes.
In 2011, ADHB (which comprises Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre, both situated in Auckland City) moved away from paper patient experience surveys and turned toward an electronic form; email surveys. By surveying patients on their experience in hospital, ADHB hopes to gain more insight into what patients’ deem important to them in their hospital care, focusing on the good aspects of patient experience and what can be done to enhance these rather than on the less positive aspects of patient experience. The patient experience is very complex and, as a literature view of the topic has found, it is difficult to determine what exactly it comprises. By analysing the open comments made by inpatients
Patient satisfaction with nursing care and compliance with treatment is a topic that is heavily researched. The problem of decreased patient satisfaction is of great significance due impart to the fact that the level of patient satisfaction coincides with the level of compliance on medical advice, prescriptions, and directions given to patients (Johansson, Oleﰀni, & Fridlund, 2002). Patient satisfaction and compliance is a substantial problem in nursing because there is a large correlation with what patients’ perceive of nursing care and their perception on the quality of care received. Research has indicated that in order to increase patients’ participation in medical care, the patient must be satisfied with nursing care.
I enjoyed when people would gaze up at me and express their admiration of my so-called God-given intellectual, as if the most dexterous dancer came out of the womb on pointe. My journey of running in the first tier of the marathon began when I was fighting to reach the fallopian tube as a perplexed cell, and continued to my teenage years of sprinting through the academic block. I had never planned for this increasing momentum to the top of the podium to cease, until last year. No really, I genuinely believed that I would never drop from that spot, and that if I did, my world would be completely demolished-the gazillions of shattered pieces splattered at the bottom of the Atlantic. Well, I guess I did not pacifically need to glue those pieces back together anyway; the peculiar glisten they reflected underwater didn’t seem to be any duller than before.
