Title “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (Martin Luther King Jr.) The recent injustice produced by police misusing lethal force to African-Americans is increasing much violence and suffering around the nation. This inappropriate use of lethal force by police must be stopped by utilizing cameras, and further training; and if that doesn’t work the federal Government must get involved and investigate these departments. Technological innovations such as cameras has exposed police misuse of lethal force towards African-Americans, and that should be a way solve the problem. Recently, the University of Southern Florida did a yearlong report over this experiment. It showed promising results such as a drop in ““response to resistance” incidents” by 53% of the officers that wore a body camera (Wing). In an overview by the Conduct of Law Enforcement Agencies, they have done dozens of investigations nationwide. Their results include: “increased transparency and data collection, community-police partnerships, steps to prevent discriminatory policing, independent oversight, improved investigation and review of uses of force, more effective training and supervision of officers” (COLEA). Although this type of progress is seen, opponents like to recognize and highlight such research done by the Bureau of Justice Statistics that most crimes are committed by African-Americans. But they must understand that police officers are required and expected to submit themselves to a higher standard than the rest of society.
