Music is an important part of everyday life, it not only brings you happiness, it expresses in a way no one can ever. The music in movies plays a particularly meaningful part. In the movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2” the soundtrack “Come a little bit closer ” is very crucial because it sets the mood, makes Rocket and Yondu seem more heroic, and it distracts the audience from the violence. “Come a little bit closer” really sets the mood of the scene it plays. The scene features Yondu killing the mutants as they try to stop them from escaping. This action scene is one of the more violent scenes in the movie but since the director played “Come a little bit closer” it makes it much more peppy, lively, as well as more epic. In addition,
The CWA (or Concerned Women for America) released an article named "Music's Deadly Influence" in August 3, 1999. The article was released when the music industry would be at a peak in its involvement within society. The TV had channels for music, CD players and various walkmans were top selling, and music could be acquired anywhere including the internet. The intention of this article was to serve as a general warning to parents and various other authority figures about the music industry and its effect on youth. The article was released under the CWA, which is an organization founded on "action and prayer" by Beverly LaHaye, and possesses a reputation in primarily right-wing views in the news and in political issues . The emotions and themes in the music of are always clear. They point out the importance of happiness, joy and victory as a source of optimism and show the sadness, fear and anger during the films darkest times. The music of the Star Wars universe has allowed audiences to experience good and evil through deeper, darker tones for evil and lighter, robust notes for good. The music gives us the opportunity to cheer or jeer the heroes and villains by bringing all our hopes and feelings to the surface. The music helps tell the story with scenic grand planets and beautiful landscapes, it guides the audience through the story, action and dialogue, and brings out all of our emotions that leaves the audience wanting more. Music proves how important it is to film and can have a lasting effect on how we feel about a
This paper will show that the stereotype of the violent, criminal African-American portrayed in rap music lyrics can become a self-fulfilling prophecy for African-Americans. Repeated and long-term exposure to this stereotypical behavior in rap music lyrics can lead to increased aggression and this stereotype becoming accepted as a social norm by African-Americans. I intend to support my argument with examples and analysis of the violent African-American stereotype, and by explaining how the stereotype can become accepted as a social norm.
in the scene which is over a minute and a half. This in itself is significant because it forces the
Rap music is derived from Hip Hop culture which is deeply rooted in the African American community. The word, rap, has a Middle English origin. Originally, rap means to beat or strike. Beginning in the 1960s, African Americans gave the word another definition. In the black community, rap meant that someone was conversing about everyday life. However, Africans who were captured against their own will would tell stories while playing instruments way before the idea of rap was conceptualized as it is today. The origin of
Music censorship has taken many forms in the past, but many forms are overbearing and generally ridiculous. Censorship comes in many forms. The practice of censorship is defined as “...the act of changing or suppressing speech or writing that is considered subversive of the common good.”(Merriam-Webster). Old forms of censorship included not allowing airplay, refusal of sale, and refusal of publishment. The major issue found with those that oppose censorship, is that they have no real grounds to address the problem sensibly. Most focus of censorship, however, is focused on the younger genres of music such as Metal, Punk, and especially Rap.
Horror films are known for their ability to scare audiences, to get the audience’s hearts racing, their blood rushing. A good horror film will cause viewers to be on the edge of their seats and having their perception of reality distorted as they attempt to understand the unraveling plot of the horror film. The tone of the film aides in the amount of suspense that a horror film produces, since a much darker film will create a more suspenseful atmosphere than one that is more focused on campy monster makeup. But the tone of a film is determined by the sound of the film, or in other words, the score. Sound or music in a horror film, or the lack thereof, make the intense scenes and without the addition
I have chosen to discuss the culture of violence in America and how it relates to gun control. It seems we cannot turn on the television, computer or smart phone without reading about gun violence throughout the country. I believe America’s love affair with violence has contributed to an increase in violent crimes. Having said that, there are several incidences in the news where possessing a gun has proven to be helpful in keeping homeowners safe and alive. In one case, a son was at home during a home invasion and used his gun to prevent the attack. This incident happened in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. Three teens dressed in black, wearing masks and gloves, broke into a residence. Authorities arrived to find two of the intruders shot to death in the home, one suspect was found dead in the driveway, and later an additional accomplice turned herself in to the authorities (Wire). Also, there is the case in which a 73-year-old man stopped a home robbery because he had a gun and shot the intruder. The elderly man reported being robbed several times that year, likely contributing to his perceived need to arm himself.
To what extent can music provide a means of resistance for challenging the power relations of racism, class and gender?
Music has been and is a very important aspect of my life, and I demonstrate my passion for it with the viola. I had never been able to own a personal viola due to financial and need based situations and so I grew accustomed to school offered instruments. This did not refrain me from challenging myself with various music opportunities.
The importance of music in movies is highly regarded for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and helping them immerse into the story. Music is one of the prime elements in cinema. Without it a movie would feel dull and unexciting. There are three elements in a movie: one is acting, the second is picture, and the third one is music. It is a holy trinity; if incomplete, there would be a lack of sensation and excitement. Both acting and picture can stand independently from one another, but music is the one that makes the movie memorable.
Music has been a tool of subjective violence and objective violence multiple times. The documentaries Shut Up and Sing!, Amandla!, and Soundtrack to War show how music is a tool to create violence and to stop it. In Amandla!, the music that black South Africans sang in protest were often heavy with objective violence. In this music, black South Africans protested against their white South African government and sometimes included hateful speech towards their superiors. Specifically during Toyi-Toyi demonstrations, these protests often would lead to, and end in, some form of subjective violence. Even though white South Africans were unable to understand the language of the Toyi-Toyi chants, the dancing and shouting that accompanied these chants
The relationship between music and society is an exceptionally powerful and crucial one. In some cases, this relationship is viewed as one that is harmonious and beneficial to large communities of people. However, that exact relationship could also be scrutinized as one that is extremely discordant to other communities. Green Day happens to fall precisely in the middle of that musical spectrum, depending on who is asked. Regardless of opinion, songs are much more than just music and are essentially retained as pieces of history. These songs help showcase the trends, behaviors, and even struggles of different time periods. With that being said, one may ask “What all did the musical group Green Day contribute to society?”.
A patient in acute care has culturally specific music because the family believes it will help the patient. The patient is not cognitively aware and there are other patients in the room. This ethical dilemma questions whether or not the rehab assistant should let the family continue playing the music or to stop since the patient is not cognitively aware and there are other patients in the same room. By asking the family to stop playing the music, conflict may occur as the RA is disrupting their culture healing beliefs. Whereas if they continue to play the music, patients in the same room could become agitated which can create problems between other patients and the family. As the duty of a culturally competent RA, we will try to accommodate the patients needs where everyone is happy with the outcome while maintaining each patient’s autonomy.
