The flip phone came to life, lighting up the screen. It was an annoying piece of issued equipment for any police officer, vibrating and dancing on the nightstand in the middle of the night, but it was absolutely crucial when not in the office or working the street. Virginia Beach Homicide Detective Jerry Anders had been called at home, twelve-thirteen, on Tuesday, and notified by Chief Dispatcher Marlin to respond to the city’s most recent
K-9 officer told Mr. Solomon to stop and he continues to run. Mr. Solomon heard the officer say he was going to release the dog and Mr. Solomon gave up. Mr. Solomon was then taken into police custody. When the victim came home, Detective Gibbs went into the home and found a black backpack at the top of the stairs. The victims stated that the backpack was not theirs. Detective Gibbs opened the backpack and the victim’s stolen laptop was inside and Daniel Solomon’s homework was also inside. Mr. Solomon and Mr. Powell were brought to 311 County Street and they both confessed to breaking the window and going inside of the home. They both blamed each other for taking items.”
I researched the case of Jonny Gammage. Johnny was the cousin of Pittsburgh Steeler’s Ray Seals and was pulled over on October 12, 1995 while driving his cousin’s Jaguar. Police state that Johnny Gammage “became uncontrollable following a low-speed chase that police said began after a Brentwood police lieutenant noticed Gammage driving erratically at about 1:45 a.m. (Lounsberry). Police “testified at the coroner's inquest that they used a wide range of force to restrain Gammage, who they said surprised them with unprovoked aggressiveness. (Lounsberry). One interesting thing I found in this case was one of the “Officer Vojtas's lawyers noted that Mr. Gammage had emerged from the Jaguar holding a cellular phone, and said the officers had

Fifth Estate’s 40th episode, “the interrogation room”, essentially analyzes an open murder case that occurred on November the third of 2006; the murder case revolves the shooting and eventual death of a male attending named Mervyn “Mikey” Spence, at a birthday party. The case was investigated over the course of four years in which the Peel Police had made arrests, but through the use of controversial interrogation methods, were redirected to charge and imprison an innocent male named, Eric “Action” Morgan. To further justify his innocence, Morgan reveals his guests to the investigators at his party who were at the time of the shooting, ultimately be his alibi(s). However, after the witnesses being held for several hours, threatened and reprimanded, they recanted their statements and later stated that s/ he
It was the beginning of October, and a 17-year-old teenager was hiding by a chain link fence. He had just stolen a purse from a nearby house, and a neighbor had called the police. An officer by the name of Elton Hymon had arrived and was trying to arrest the kid, whose name was Edward Garner. Garner began to climb the 6-foot fence, and Officer Hymon,

“If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit” a statement which was used by Johnnie Cochran. A quote from the People of the State of California v. A case that brought attention to many American’s, immigrants, nationwide viewers and also, a case that is known to today’s society as the OJ Simpson case. Dr. Ward, claims the phone “acts as a 'supernormal stimulus’, one that can ‘hijack’ attention.” “Supernormal” describes the phone to be a stimulus that is extremely above the average stimuli. “Hijack” strongly describes how the phone is “controlling us.” For one of the tests done on college students, he finds the results “striking.” By using “striking”, he expresses his shocked reaction. He comments to another test with: “the evidence that out phone can get inside our head so forcefully is unsettling.” He uses “forcefully” to show a strong action for phones having access to our minds. By using strong diction, Nicholas Carr is able to solidify his claim of phones hijacking our
Computerized communication within law enforcement has and will continue to improve law enforcement as the technology is implemented and utilized within these agencies. The utilization of such devices as mobile data terminals (MDT’s) has given the average patrol officer access to enormous amounts of information. Even in 1979, Computer and technology were said to “have the potential to aid in criminal justice activities through the rapid communication of accurate and complete information, and perhaps a more rational approach to decision-making” (Colton, 1979. P.19). Now in 2014, the computers and
THESIS: In today’s world, the phone often provides a primary source of access to both social support and necessary data for school and extracurricular activities,” Dodgen-Magee says. “To simply yank it away would be like taking away the support of a bridge with nothing in its place.”
The case that I will be discussing is the cold murder case of Lucille Johnson from Salt Lake City, Utah. Unfortunately, at the time of the murder the investigators didn’t take certain evidence serious in the case. The investigators thought that it was just evidence that had no meaning. None the less, it ended up convicting the murderer, John Sansing.
Have you ever wanted to pick apart a piece of writing the way one might pick off the toppings of a pizza? I see literary devices as the toppings and the dough is the good writing. Literary devices refer to the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her message in a simple manner to his or her readers. When “employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate, interpret and analyze a literary work.”, and by developing a strong understanding of what they are and how they function, one can increase their enjoyment of the writing.
Smart phones have become such an important part in our lives that we lose focus with or without them. When they’re in the palms of our hands we can’t seem to stop using it; when we don’t have
Power is control over yourself and your actions. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth demonstrates her want to become masculine by saying, “ Come you spirits/ That tend on mortal thoughts, unisex me here,/ And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full/ Of direst cruelty” ( Shakespeare I.V.47-50). She call ths spirits that “tend on mortal thoughts”, or those that are open to ideas ,to “unisex her”, meaning that she wants to change from a female to a male, “crown to the toe top full”, which means she wants to fill herself with the qualities of a male such as cruelty and self-confidence rather than any female characteristics. Lady Macbeth wants to be in control of her situation, and in order to do that she needs masculine traits.
