A major problem that many representative democracies had, and still have, is securing minorities rights within a system ruled by the majority of that country. This is when the term modern pluralism comes into light. Modern pluralism is the idea that having a large number of parties within a government will create more power in the system, which ensures that not a single group will contain total control.

Things happen when you least expect as is the case of “Virginia vs Dustin Turner”. Dustin Turner was found guilty for the murder of Jennifer Evans. The story goes that Bill Joe Brown chocked and killed 22 year old Jennifer Evans because she would not accept his drunk, aggressive advances toward her and Dustin helped Billy hide her body for 8 days before reporting it to the police which caused things to change in his life forever. Dustin was sentence to 82 years and Billy Joe Brown was sentence to 72 years both without parole. The sentence that Dustin received was not fair because he was also charged with sexual assault and kidnapping which was not accurate.
United States vs Virginia Military Institute in June of 1996 Supreme Court’s decision would change future courts discussion on all gender based equal protection claims. This case marks a turning point feminist jurisprudence and constitutional theory by rendering separate and unequal facilities for men and women unconstitutional. In my opinion Virginia want to receive funding but did not want to follow the 14th amendment. The VMI will have to admit women or go to a private institute and lose funding. VMI try to make a women institute where women just sit at desk and do office work. They accept women but they had to go thought a lot. Such as offensive language, hazing and ignoring. The men wore shirts that read better dead than co-Ed. I
In 1967, the Supreme Court made a landmark civil rights decision in the case Loving v. Virginia by invalidating laws prohibiting interracial marriage. The conflict over race in marriage had been challenged by Richard and Mildred Loving who were married in 1958 in the District of Columbia. The Lovings refused to compromise by separating or divorcing, even after they were arrested and forced to leave the state of Virginia. The landmark civil rights decision helped to weave a path toward the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Terry v. Ohio was a pivotal case for the Fourth Amendment and for the citizens of the United States of America. As referenced by the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, in nineteen sixty three an off duty detective in Cleveland, Ohio stopped and frisked two African American men and one white man based on a ‘reasonable suspicion that the men were about to commit a crime’ (ACLUOhio, 2014). The ruling of this case has set in motion the gross abuse of stop and frisks in minority communities and among minority races in the twenty-first century; ultimately racial profiling in a post-racial era.
In the United States v. Virginia court case, the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) was the only single sexed school in Virginia. The VMI’s purpose was to train males to become leaders in the future. The District Court knew that women was missing an opportunity for equal education. Virginia wanted to make an institute for women, and they thought it would be equal to the VMI. They would both offer comparable educational benefits. The Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership (VWIL) couldn’t do much without compromising the school’s adversative method.
Approaching the Christian Service Project my junior year, my project is already picked out. The catholic social teaching actually had a hand in helping me pick out my project. This project is through the church of St. Vincent de Paul and is the Adopt-A-Family program at Christmas. God created human beings to be in loving communion with another and God which is what this program helps to accomplish.
Racism is the belief that one racial group is superior than the other and with racism comes stereotyping and discrimination. In the past White people felt that Black people was beneath them instead of treating us like human beings we were treated like a piece of property. People are discriminated against for different reason such as gender, financial status and race. At one-time interracial marriage was illegal however the federal courts overruled that in the Loving v, Virginia case in 1967. Multiracial people identify with two or more races, they are currently the fastest growing demographic group in the United States (Astrea Greig, 2018) and they face several problems for instance not being able to identify themselves as multiracial, they have to choose a race and at times they are rejected in the video there was a girl who identify herself as Black however is said the Black girls at school gave her the most problems and she always had to fight to depend herself .

In America’s present-day society, it’s people are faced with the question of whether marijuana should be legalized or not. The issue brought with the legalization of cannabis is the fear that it is a gateway drug that will lead users to try other, harder drugs. More states have decided to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use but not all agree with the decisions. There has been much research done to show the positive and negative effects of marijuana, itself, and the legalization of it; some concerns dealing with health, economic, and societal issues. Marijuana is a mixture of dried flowers of the Cannabis Sativa and may be consumed in many different forms. In a video made by ASAPScience called “ Your Brain on Drugs; Marijuana”, the speaker explains how the THC in marijuana is what creates the mind-altering effects on the brain, which considers it a “drug”, although it comes from a natural source. Some people are against the legalization of cannabis simply because it is considered a drug, which they may tend to stay away from in general. It is clear that both sides discussing the issue of whether marijuana should be legalized or not contain valid arguments, but there must also be a clear solution to what must happen.
