The Virtual Academy of Lafourche (VAL), organized in 2012, is a Louisiana Type 1, Virtual Charter School in partnership with Lafourche Parish School Board, providing unique models of instruction for students’ k-12. Education in our society is a very important factor in shaping our future. One’s future is depended on the education they receive and everyone is somehow affected by this. Children from the ages of kindergarteners to seniors in high school, college graduates, and stay at home mothers, are all shaped by the education the government provides us. There are many different ways to acquire an education some through private schools, public, charter, and being homeschooled. However, homeschooling is growing more in popularity than it has ever been.

In the article “The Truth about New York City’s Elite High Schools”, the author criticized the sole-criterion admission system for eight NYC specialized high schools. This system judge all the students depends on only one thing—the test score of SHSAT( Specialized High School Admission Test). It seems like a fair condition that gives every student an equal opportunity, but the reality is a much different story. The result of this “fair” system is that only about 10 percent of students in all eight specialized high schools of NYC are African students or Latino students. Based on this result, the author suggests that this system is unfair to African or Latino students.

Could those courses be conducted through the eCAT Academy or would cyber charter schools be necessary? Current legislation for cyber schools should be discussed, including their unregulated use of tuition money to advertise. The community may or may not feel that cyber charter schools are aligned to their belief. The community may have strong feelings on youth being nurtured to develop appropriate social skills and may not approve of expanding online learning to outside sources. Furthermore, the cyber charter schools the superintendent might want to use would need to provide data over time that is evidence of the student achievement expected at LaTrobe. The superintendent would be wise to educate the stakeholders and collaborate with them prior to spending public education dollars to have another institution educate their students. To me, it sends a message that the school can’t handle the course. I would rather see school districts collaborating and sharing online courses with each other than using cyber charter schools. This will keep tax dollars in the public school system, as well as add to the variety of course options available to students that the schools can regulate by working together to develop learning objectives and common assessments that meet the curricular requirements of the

what? Cell phones in a class room. Kinds using cell phones is class is a bad idea. They could be on inappropriate websites such as negative videos and games. These are some reasons why students should not be able to use their cell phones during class. Teachers and staffs just want children to do work on their cell phones without any problems out of them. Mean while some students may go tell the teacher if your on the wrong thing other than what your supposed to be on. If I was a parent I would not let my child bring him/her phone to school doing to bullying, teachers taking their phones and do to someone trying to take him/her phone. Schools will clearly promote their students' academic success and safety by limiting the use of student phones during school hours. Presently, most schools leave it to teachers to manage phone distractions in their own classrooms. But this piecemeal approach has left teachers with inadequate support to confront the difficult and potentially unsafe task of limiting disruptive phone use by defiant students. I would like to use cell phones in class but I cant because children do not know how to act their age.
