Visual Argument Gun control is a very opinionated subject. Many believe that a gun ban is a key to stopping gun violence. This visual shows the consequences of a gun ban by depicting the average American as defenseless and a target for criminals after the gun ban while the criminal will have a gun before and after the ban. This is a very effective visual using logos to make the viewer think about the consequences of weapons in only the hands of criminals. It is argued gun control would lower the crime rate, however what makes people pushing for gun control not think it will just make criminals more confident and avid to commit their next crime? The picture depicts a sense of new found courage or eagerness for the criminal by depicting him …show more content…
Obviously banning guns in America will only remove registered weapons from registered gun owners which amounted to only about 16% of the roughly “300,000 crimes, including murder, facilitated with a firearm,” according to the National Crime Victimized Survey report in 2013 on extranosalley.com. This means around 84% of the crimes facilitated with a fire arm in 2013 were illegally purchased or stolen guns. This shows a weapon ban will not affect criminals or people that commit crimes with guns. The only thing it's affecting or controlling is registered weapon owners yet they only make up and are responsible for about that small 16%. It wouldn't have been worth disarming every gun owning citizen in 2013 knowing 84% of the guns used in crime that year were untraceable to the criminal. All this control will result in is a rise in black market gun sales. This add suggest gun control is not the way to stop crime. As depicted in the picture the criminal will have a gun before and after, no matter what. Passing a weapon ban will solely strip your constitutional rights as an American to bear arms and make us dependent on the government and police for protection from criminals. Agreeing to gun confiscation will say goodbye to the day of being self-reliant and protecting your
Banning guns will not keep the number of deaths and crimes down. Just because there is a law put in place dose not mean everyone will follow it .For instance if a gun law was made all the criminals would still have guns .That leaves us law
To begin with, Gun control doesn’t stop crime, gun ownership stops crime. For instance, Guns don’t do the crime, the people do the crime. If someone is injured or killed by a firearm it is not the guns fault, it is the person who pulled the triggers fault. Also, we need guns for self defense. If someone tries to rob you, you can have something to protect you. We should not have gun control laws.
Gun control is, put simply, damaging our rights. It has been shown countless times in history that gun control has little to no positive effect on crime in the area that the gun control was implemented. In some cases, crime rates actually rose in those areas. In modern American society, there are several statistics that can prove my viewpoint on this topic as the proper one. A survey of over 18 thousand prison inmates showed that 30% of state offenders and 35% of federal offenders were in the possession of a firearm while committing the crime. Another survey of inmates convicted of felons throughout 11 state prisons had stated that 34% had been “scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured” by an armed would-be victim. 69% knew someone that had been. On another note, there were 40% of these felons that made the choice not to commit a crime due to an armed person in the vicinity. In 2008, over 5 million violent crimes, including rape, assault, and murder occurred in the United States. However, only 8% of offenders were visibly armed with a gun. And while I'm on the topic of violent crimes, only 1 in 12 offenders are sentenced to prison (Agresti).
One of the main topics concerning gun control is crime rate. Crime rate could increase if guns are banned. It is so easy for criminals to get their hands on guns, whether they are illegal or not. Guns are not the problem in the country, it is the person with the weapon. It does not matter how much the government regulates gun control, they cannot regulate the people. Banning guns will not stop crime rate from going up. The U.S. has an estimated amount of 220+ million guns and machine tools, so criminals can easily make their own weapons (“Will You Be”). The United States will only be in more trouble if guns are banned. Banning guns does not mean criminals will automatically stop what they are doing. Most criminals illegally make and buy their own weapons, anyway. Most of the crimes committed are not with the use of a gun. Many are used with different types of weapons or tools. “Getting rid of guns does not get rid of violence. Some people think that
Gun control is an ineffective means of reducing both violent, and firearm related crime. Limiting the ability for law abiding citizens to responsibly own arms only reduces their ability to provide to provide security to themselves and their family. It is not the duty of the federal government to dictate what a citizen chooses to legally defend themselves with.
Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons.
If gun control is regulated, then we will have less crime. Access to firearms makes killing easy, efficient, and impersonal, which increases the lethality of crime. Josh Sugarmann, the Executive Director of the Violence Policy Center has once said, "We recoil in horror and search for explanations, but we never face up to the obvious preventive measure: a ban on the handy killing machines that make crimes so easy.”Allowing untrained people to carry guns puts others at risk and it can result in self-inflicting injuries both by suicide and unintentional incidents. Gun violence in America kills more than 30,000 and injures almost 70,000 each year. Guns can be misused and abused, which is why gun
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is
Every day in America 32 people are killed by guns whether it’s murder, suicide, or an accidental shooting. And American people have been scared for so long after hearing every month of another mass shooting somewhere. Their first thought, “ban the guns, they kill people.” Guns have never taken the life of an individual and it will not solve our problems of mass shootings by banning guns, it will only make law-abiding citizens unprotected in a dangerous society.
With about 200,000,000 home burglaries that re reported in the US each year, it will make it significantly harder for people to protect there houses and families from criminals that most likely have illegally obtained weapons. Banning guns in he US will do the complete opposite of what some people think it will do; instead of lowering the homicide rate it will increase it. For example, the United Kingdom was the first place to ban handguns in 1997 after a man shot and killed 216 elementary students then followed by shooting himself. A year before the ban, in 1996, the murder rate was 1.12 per 100,000 people. In 2002 the homicide rate went up to 2.1 homicides per 100,000 people (Altucher). We are in the situation that the UK was in ten years ago and by the numbers; it is proven that there chose was the wrong one. During violent attacks only three-percent of the
Introduction: I believe that gun control laws will actually increase robberies, murders, and other crime. Think of it like this ok, you and your kids are sleeping in your beds. Then you hear your front door being kicked in. You see people walking around your house stealing your tv’s, your kids game systems, computers, and jewelry. You begin to go for the phone and call 911, but they see you and they start to run at you and your kids with a knife. Would you rather have a gun or another knife in this situation? The point is, that criminals don’t want to go try and rob somebody if that person has an arsenal in their closet. If people don’t have guns then criminals
A majority of the American people feel that gun control laws will help reduce crime rates because the waiting period would allow time for a person’s temper to cool down. They also feel that gun control will prevent repeat offenders because when a person tries to purchase a handgun, he will have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire. The questionnaire will include questions about the buyer’s past, for example, if they have a criminal record or a record of any mental illness. If there is a criminal record in that person’s history, he will not be able to make the purchase. Restricting handgun ownership would also reduce crime, because guns are used most often in robberies and murders (Mayer 28). They are very easily concealed under a coat, or even in the waistband of pants.
Gun control does not lower crime but guns do lower crime. When gun ownership increased in the twentieth century murder rate decreased. Taking away guns does not stop crap, if anything it makes matters worse. Think about it, why would a law of no guns stop a criminal. Robbing a bank is illegal, why would it stop them now. They will find the guns no matter what they don’t give up. What taking away guns all do is leave the people who abide by the law with nothing to protect themselves with. We do have police to protect you but they will not make it as near as fast to save you. Over half the people who took a survey by Pew Research said they would not feel safe if the gun laws got stricter. You should have the right to protect yourself by anyway possible, you should have to listen to dumb law on how you cannot protect yourself. If it is a
Gun control might sound like a good approach to impede the rate of gun deaths at first, but when you contemplate it, you realize that if a criminal wanted to procure a firearm, he wouldn’t go about it in a justifiable way. The criminal would presumably buy a gun off the “Black Market” where the law has no jurisdiction. Someone who has no respect for
Some people believe that extremely tight gun control laws will eliminate crime, but gun control laws only prevent the 'good guys' from obtaining firearms. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. New gun control laws will not stop them. Since the shootings of Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, the frequency of mass shootings has increased greatly. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to actually reduce the number of gun-related crimes. Instead of considering a ban of private firearm possession, and violating individual ownership rights, it may be more practical to consider the option of partially restricting firearm
