Sunshine said that main point is study hard, “At the beginning of my education, I considered so many universities but I finally realized that the most important point in education is to start and through any university, study hart to graduated.” The health care management program at South University is divided in two sections, two years about the basic courses and two year related to administration. The first two years, the preparation is the same as the most common health career program. The student will have accomplished the basic courses such as math, English, anatomy and accounting. In this period of time, the student will have to learn and practice public speaking. The last 2 years, the student will take more courses related to administration, ethics, some marketing strategies and leadership organization. These 4 years of education will help the student to have the full knowledge to be successful taking decisions in future field. Sunshine mentioned that 4 years of school are not a waist of time, in the contrary, gain education for a better
The management team in the healthcare environment has a very important role within their facility. There are ten managerial roles that fall within three categories. The three categories are: interpersonal roles, informational roles, and decisional roles. “A manager’s interpersonal roles involve interactions with people inside and outside the work unit. The information roles involve the giving, receiving, and analyzing of information. The decisional roles involve using information to make decisions, to solve problems, to address opportunities” (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007. P. 13). Interpersonal roles involve interactions with people inside and outside the unit. Informational roles of a health care manager involve giving, receiving, and analyzing information. Finally, the decisional roles of a health care manger involve using information for decision making, problem solving, and addressing opportunities (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007. P. 13). Of all these different roles, I believe the most important role is the interpersonal role. The
The superior act of living an effective life lies in the pursuit of excellent vision, to move from where we are to where we ought to be, either as a person or as an organization. A health care leader must motivate the organizational team, find how to work with the associates to effectively dedicate their time and energy to achieve the identified goals and objectives through the established vision. The team members need to buy into the vision, where they are currently doing what the leader envisions, the leader must encourage them, keep them on track and set standards for the team by setting goals and objective, flowing from the vision. This will enable the leader to move the health care organization to the expected performance level within the set time period. The leader must ensure that individual responsibilities of the associates are identified, motivated and resources provided to achieve the identified goals. To pursue the vision, I will lead the development of the health care organization’s strategic alignment of clear goals and objectives, to preserve the core mission and encourage progress toward the envisioned future state. Also, I will encourage and provide the direction for the organization without hindering the development of the goals that we expect to accomplish.
“He who has health has hope. And he who has hope, has everything.”- Benjamin Franklin. The decision to pursue a lifetime of service within the Healthcare industry was quite easy for me. After witnessing the importance of having exceptional health care first hand, I want to do everything I can to assist others by ensuring that healthcare policies and procedures are followed properly. Without proper health care, a person can feel lost and hopeless. I believe that an Administrative Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital will enable me with the necessary tools to plan, direct, communicate, and govern effectively in a health care facility.
As a health care administrator/manager it will be imperative for you to work with the
The most challenging area Mrs. Dukes faces is staffing. For a well- developed health care system, sufficient, highly motivated and skillful employees are essential components (Saleem, 2015). It is important that we remember people are the most important and valuable asset of an organization. Every position is an important position and it takes skillful and effective people to fill those spots. “Staffing is the managerial function concerned with the procurement and maintenance of human resources” (Dunn, 2010). Having the right staff members is key in running an organization. If you hire individuals who are

I had an interview with Helen Quelch in her office. She has been working as a volunteer engagement manager at National Jewish Health for more than 7 years. Before that, she also had worked at the Denver Hospice as volunteer manager as well for many years. She had a lot of managerial experiences of working in a healthcare field. That is a reason I want to interview her to explore the career in healthcare management.
The organization depends on the Hospital Administrator to keep interaction with the community and relay solutions to any problems that may arise (Wolfe, 2013). The service of program development also impacts the hospital either positively or negatively. The organization depends on the administrator to keep ahead of development and always think outside the box for new innovative ideas from medical treatments all the way to managerial structure to improve the performance of the organization as a whole. Finally, the organization is dependent on all of its employees to function and is very dependent on the administrator not only to hire the best employees, but also retain the employees, and evaluate the employees as necessary to keep them functioning at their highest capacity (Wolfe, 2013).
For my health care interview, I conduct an interview with Ayanna Randle Banks she is Quality Assurance Nurse at Kensington Place located at 3405 S. Michigan, Chicago IL. Kensington Place is a nursing home and rehabilitation facility. She has worked at Kensington Place for three years and was recently promoted to a Quality Assurance Nurse. As a Quality Assurance Nurse, she works to the review of clinical cases that may be related to quality of care issues identified by appeals and grievance process, adverse events occurring in the hospital or an outpatient setting, which provides clinical interventions. She also evaluates the work and behavior of employees in her departments. And also educate other nurses on the best practices and implement innovative procedures to improve the quality of work. This managerial role is often considered to relate more closely to the business side of health services than patient care.
The structure of the organization is that it is governed by the board of directors of Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation also known as BMHCC, and with the President and CEO, Jason M. Little. This organization is one that prides itself on giving quality medical care and does so by one of the many facilities of choice. The interview with Chere Smith provided me with a great deal of experiential knowledge that are essential for my professional and personal life. Chere inspired me as a manager as well as a leader. The first thing I learned from this interview is that it is important to shared the mission, vision and the values of the organization you work for in order to have a meaningful career. Moreover, I learned the significant impact that managerial planning, coordination, decision making, time management, effective communication, participative leadership and motivation have on the management role. In addition, I also realizes that it is crucial to maintain work-life balance and flexibility as one move up the management ladder. The overlap between Chere experiential knowledge and propositional knowledge from Supervisor Management class give me the whole picture of what it takes to be a healthcare manager. In conclusion, this interview showed me the importance of the administrative and management role every healthcare manager plays in delivering quality healthcare.

I am interested in pursuing an administrative career within a major health system. The UNC Fellowship Program will provide opportunities for me to : (1) gain operational and financial exposure to health care delivery within a nationally competitive health system; (2) acquire a diverse leadership perspective through shadowing and mentorship with Senior Leaders; (3) support UNC operational initiatives by leading at least one significant project that improves patient quality of care within a service line(s). In addition, I hope to learn more about how research interacts with clinical care and gain further insight and to see how the overarching strategy of UNC Health Care interacts with the School of Medicine and medical staff organization. My goal at the end of the Fellowship is to smoothly make the transition to a young leader in health care administration armed with the knowledge and foundation in health care management that I have acquired during the
People see hospitals as a place where one goes for healing and medical care, but hospitals are businesses that healthcare administrators have the responsibility of maintaining. Healthcare administrators’ responsibilities include many aspects related to patient care. Some of those aspects are social and public policy and the technical management of healthcare delivery in hospitals. Unfortunately, healthcare administrators are faced with many challenges as well. One of the growing challenges that healthcare administrators are facing is the shortage of healthcare professionals.
