ASDA was built in 1965 by a group of farmers in the North of Britain (Corporate Watch, 2013). ASDA is a private limited company and bought by Wal-Mart in 1999, Asda is the British arm of the biggest retail chain of the United States (Wal-Mart’s ASDA, 2011). The Company retails food, clothing, general merchandise, toys and financial services (Wal-Mart’s ASDA 2011). The company is struggling hard now to get into the pace of intense competition in the UK Markets (BBC Business News 2013). Profitability:
Profitability is expressed in terms of several popular numbers, which measure one of two generic types of performance: "how much they make with what they 've got" and "how much they make from what they take in" (Money Chimp, 2014). Asda’s profits improved by 6% in 2013: despite its new chain of small stores running up losses of more than £30m (The Guardian, 2013).
Britain 's second largest supermarket bought Netto 's UK chain for £752m in 2010 (Zoe W. 2012) but finished overhauling all 147 of the small stores.

The Financial Records (Annual Report, 2013) show that overall operating profits at the Wal-Mart-owned grocer (ASDA) increased income of £10.29 bn in 2013 from £9.47 bn in the year 2012, which is better than the previous year which decline the statement reported by market leader Tesco in the year 2012.
