A bug bite was my greeting as I walked into a warm blast of air, promptly, I looked up only to see a ceiling that never seemed to end with the words Wal-Mart written all over it. Without delay, I darted for the frozen food section in hopes of finding my favorite food, Sushi. While searching through the aisles I couldn’t help but realize something very peculiar, everyone I laid eyes on was either dressed in an appropriate or inappropriate manner. After realizing that many people in the store dressed inappropriately for public spaces, I began to question my own dress code. This pattern has gained recognition not only by me, but also by the media. According to an article in the CNN Living, dressing up in public has become something of the past, …show more content…
“Finally,” I whispered as I found the Sushi, at that moment, I decided that I should walk around the store in an attempt to find things I would need for the house, this however ended as a bad idea. While walking around, I spotted countless people who dressed in the most inappropriate manner. The people who dressed wrongfully did not seem to care about their appearance and often had children with them. Also, these people showed no respect for themselves or for the people around them, not to mention how, they never knew anyone around the store and they often cared less about the dressing patterns of other people. The last, most obvious trait was that they were very loud and obnoxious. In agreement with my realization, 7 Days in Dubai, states that now in days people do not care about their appearances; that respect for yourself and your family occurs through what you wear, therefore dress appropriately. (7DAYS Reader) Despite what you may believe all of these wonderful, and glorious, and magnificent, traits can be present within one person. …show more content…
Before long another pattern emerged, people who dressed appropriately did not act mean, or obnoxious, or loud, instead they were kind hearted and pleasing to speak with. They often dressed to impressed and randomly would ask whoever they accompanied with if they looked decent enough to be out in public. Before long, the soccer ball was found. The ball was quite colorful, at the same moment, an older couple walked up to me dressed in the most elegant fashion; they were so elegant that even their walk, for older individuals, had admiring qualities. The couple stepped towards me hand in hand, and in the firmest, most respectable voice asked, “My grandson is a huge soccer player, we wish to get him a ball of good quality, however, we do not know a thing about soccer, would you mind helping us for a moment?” “I would be pleased to,” I responded. This couple alone contained all of the characteristics of what made such great
In the article, “The Battle Over Dress Codes” written by Peggy Orenstein, explains the dress code of Berkley Middle School from a mother’s point of view. This mother of argues that young girls who are reaching puberty and whose bodies are growing, are being told to cover up once they start to develope. She says, “In May, students in Utah high school opened their yearbooks to discover digitally raised necklines and sleeve added to female classmates’ shirts.” I find this act highly deceitful and unnecessary. If i was that student or that student’s parent, I’d be very upset. Orenstein also states that “seductiveness” has been an issue for girls, which has become politicized. Although, no matter how we’re dressed, there is no excuse for catcalls from older men. Orenstein says, “I don’t want her to feel shame in her soon-to-be-emerging
I decided for my social observation the mall would be a good place to start. I came there on a Friday evening when there should be plenty of people to watch. I also sat in the Barnes and Noble café after that to observe. I expected to see a lot of people shopping and conversing. A few things did stand out to me within the few hours I was there. Some things I didn’t expect to see. We are expected to behave a certain way in public determined by our culture as to what is acceptable. Some people stay well within the lines while some might stray outside the norms but never too far typically. Usually the ones to travel to the extremes are adolescents and teenagers. This is what I observed.
Everybody nowadays wear what they like to wear in public. They do not care about how other people think of their dress. Besides, it is people’s rights to dress themselves freely. However, in the story A&P, written by John Updike, people tend to be more conservative about dressing. The story happens in 1961 in a small town of northern Boston. At that time, people value conformity as their social norm. Main character Sammy works in A&P, and he despises people who act the same. One day, three girls come to the store, and they get insulted by manager Lengel because they just wear bathing suits. Sammy quits the job in A&P because he tries to defend for the girls. In fact, he is motivated by the girls to go against the social norm. After he witnesses
How does somebodies attire effects other people’s judgments of them? More specifically, how does attire of women influences others judgments? These are questions that take root from evolving problems in the world today. It is hard to give an honest answer because it is an opinionated argument. However, appropriate attire policies is a growing problem for society, there is a growing demand for equality in male and female attire. The argument is expressed in an article written by Laura Bates called, “How School Dress Codes Shame Girls and Perpetuate Rape Culture”. The problem is that women are expected to dress in a way that is socially acceptable. Socially acceptable means that, females must dress in a way that protects and covers the female anatomy. This argument that Bates explains, expresses a pathos appeal because you are allowed to understand the point of view of those who have been victimized by dress codes. The article also gives an ethos appeal because the article makes a person question their morale value. Questioning whether dress codes are equal or unjust and sexist. Reading the argumentative peace it is obvious that Bates stands against sexist dress codes.
The outfit we may choose to wear causes certainly, absolutely no harm to others surrounding us. Thus, what may be the point? Why must they enforce it? Therefore, now is our time, as students of Westlake High School, to stand up for what we believe in and declare we be given the right to wear whatever we may please. Under certain circumstance of course, nothing outrageous, or whore-like. And as for males of our society, no pants must expose thou of thy nature below the waist.
Stephanie was sent home from school, on her first day, when she wore an outfit to school that showed her collarbones. This measure was taken because they don’t want the male student to be distracted from schoolwork. However, male students distract themselves, why should the female students have to change the way they dress because a male student will be distracted. Stop looking, stay focused; it is not difficult to do so. These extreme dress code rules should not becoming into place because male students will be distracted; they should still be able to learn if we show our collarbones.
The prominent reason behind the various overdone school rules regarding dress is the loose power that administrators have been given. They have been “reserve[d] the right to determine if a clothing item or accessory is appropriate for school” (Carroll High School Student Handbook 2010-2011 18). The officials at school are using their own personal opinions to judge the students’ dress. Since styles change as time goes on, the generation in control and the
The Sacred Realm is a theme of art that involves the concept of aspects that cannot be seen but can only be brought to existence through faith by viewing a piece of art work. This faith is usually in form of a sacred realm. It’s vital to understand that this theme cannot be viewed by the naked eye. For instance, the religious images in the visual art are employed to bring about the opinions and beliefs of the individuals who are in faith of the specific religion and this is reached by provision of abstract ideas with images thru the work of art. Therefore, the Sacred Realm theme of art explains in a virtual way the reason and purpose behind the existence of certain aspects of nature such as religion
I agree that all schools should have dress codes because of the fact that with strict dress codes can deter school shootings or bring the % down, take the columbine shooting for example, the kids that were responsible for the shooting were wearing long jackets with deep enough pockets to hide weapons.
The venue was filled with both young and old, men and women, married and single persons and families. Though all kinds of groups of people were present, there was a greater number of younger people present and more women than men. Customers tended to shop in pairs whether they were with their friends, significant others, parents or children. Nevertheless, there was a significant presence of single shoppers. These single shoppers often appeared as if they had just come back from work with women tending to wear business casual outfits and men wearing clothes suggesting manual labor such as construction work. Though, coming back from a job consisting of manual labor, implies that this person is unkempt, it was quite the opposite. Regardless of the manual labor, these individuals were both clean and groomed. Other consumers wore casual, relaxed clothing such as t-shirts and jeans or leggings. Each consumer dressed in a presentable manner. Dressing in a presentable manner did not only apply to the consumers, but to the vendors as well. The vendors, which consisted of more young and male workers, dressed in a work specific uniform which consisted of a red top with a name tag and black pants accompanying their maintained

When it comes to dress code, every individual has a different viewpoint for its implementation. There are clothes that could be fashionable to one person but seen as offensive to another. A dress code can be justifiable when put into a situation that really does require certain attire to be worn. It gives a sense of formality and distinguishes an individual apart from a group. This report seeks to compare and contrast the characteristics of school dress codes with that of dress codes in the workplace.

Question: Should the girls have been chastised for their clothes? Do dress codes have a place in public areas and stores?
Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never had to deal with them. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller’s article on this subject, titled, “School Dress Codes”.
