Introduction In this text, I choose to concern myself with Wal-Mart - a fortune 500 company. In so doing, I will amongst other things discuss the store's business model as well as organizational strategy. Further, I will also highlight not only the products the company offers for sale but also its industry and market position. Wal-Mart: An Overview Wal-Mart according to Yahoo Finance (2012) "operates retail stores in various formats worldwide." Currently, the company is not only the world's largest retailer but it also happens to be one of the largest public corporations in the world. It occupies the second position in the Fortune 500 list. The company's current headquarters are located at Bentonville, Arkansas. Its web address is http://www.walmartstores.com/. Wal-Mart's Industry and Market Position The store does business in the Discount, Variety Stores industry. Some of its main competitors according to Yahoo Finance (2012) include but they are not limited to Target Corp. and Costco Wholesale Corporation. As I have already pointed out above, Wal-Mart is today regarded the largest retailer in the world. Thus by all accounts, Wal-Mart is the dominant entity in the Discount, Variety Stores industry. According to the company, its 2012 fiscal year sales totaled $444 billion (Wal-Mart, 2012).
