Caroline Fodale English 121 Professor Mount 03/04/2015 Snap Into Reality We constantly hear we are in the ‘age of technology’. It’s crazy how much technology we use on a daily basis. It has become so routine to have technology incorporated into our daily lives that we don’t realize how much we rely on it. Who would have thought Pixar’s animation Wall-E could have so much technological awareness incorporated into the plot. The director of Wall-E created this movie with a universal message of what will happen to our society over time if we do not stop relying on technology. Thousands of years have passed that we have lived with technology, and it has worked in our benefit in many circumstances. However, it has become an addiction, …show more content…
Additional to Wall-E, Eve was created to be sent to Earth to determine whether life is substantial or not so the people don’t have to do it themselves. Having robots like Wall-e and Eve do important tasks such as these, they are unable to acknowledge what they have done wrong, and how to go about changing
Although the movie strictly focuses on the robot WALL-E and his love interest with the high-tech robot Eve, the audience is still able to understand the true meaning behind the critically acclaimed movie. The animated film portrays a futuristic reality of the implications of today’s society. In today’s modern society, consumerism is an everyday fact of living. Society is constantly encourage to purchase goods and services to the point where there is no longer a realization of the influence companies have on people’s daily lives. The movie has left the audience to question how society could lead the planet to such a state where it is virtually uninhabitable by humans. The film is “an exaggerated extension of our consumer-driven lifestyle whereby convenience and complacency have supplanted personal liberty” (Krier, 2008). A consumer-driven lifestyle can be seen in the movie through the use of clever depictions of Buy-N-Large in the film, however overconsumption is also a part of many cultures today, including the United States. The film depicts that humans have made the planet uninhabitable through
Wall-E then continues to address other environmental issues as well. For example sustainability as seen through the only small plant left on the polluted Earth after Buy ‘n’ Large as well as the characters left Earth in starliners into space. Human interactions with the environment have caused major shifts and changes within the environment affecting the way animals live as well as humans live. The
Technology is part of our lives; or is our life, and it has too much of an effect on everything. The internet started out as an amazing experiment, now it became this enormous
WALL-E is robot that is on planet Earth trying to clean up Earth for the humans to live back on Earth. WALL-E also is a robot that puts trash in his stomach then compresses it to a block of trash. The conflict is that WALL-E is the only robot on Earth cleaning up the trash; all the other robots like WALL-E has broken down or died.
Being alive is much more than just being able to breathe. “Wall-E” demonstrates how the overexposure to technology can lead to a negative impact on human's life and skills. Life skills are defined as the essential tools to appreciate and live life to its full potential. The Axiom is broadcasted to be a luxurious temporary home, where you can play golf and live without any worries but in reality, humans live in a society corrupted by technology. For example, when John and Mary break away from the screen on their faces, they experience their first face to face interaction and realize that there is more than just a screen. They begin to explore, even end up playing in the pool they never knew existed, splashing around having fun, actually doing
He also realizes that the world he is in is odd when he first encounters EVE falling from the sky. He also has a small group of misfit robots who support him and help him carry out his mission. However, unlike the common dystopian protagonist, Wall-E is motivated solely by his admiration and love for EVE, not a desire for freedom from those who oppress him. This, in turn, provides a unique twist on the cute character while still staying true to the fundamentals that keep the story engaging. Moreover, the story’s antagonist is the Axiom’s robotic autopilot named AUTO.
We as human beings let this technology take over every single one of our lives. We want the most flashy things and the better things in life to be more popular and to make our lives more better. If technology ends up how it is portrayed in the movie, and our earth falls to global warming then the fate of mandkind is in trouble. It seems as though that we are leaning into that direction. Like Nguyen said in the article “WALL-E: For All Ages, For the Ages”, “ Technology, without a doubt, has the capability to make life a convenient experience to humanity. However, an over-reliance on technology could lead to a dystopian society like the one depicted in WALL-E, where humans essentially turn into robots while robots like WALL-E and EVE actually have more humanistic qualities than the humans
However, after Wall-e action and his human characteristic, the attitudes and lifestyle of the humans in the film were no longer the same. Everyone’s destiny was changed. First of all, let’s talk about MO (the cleaner in the Axiom), normally all the robots and the people in the axiom follow lines from the ground to move everywhere, but when WALL_E is after EVE trying not to lose track of her by driving himself from wherever he wanted to, from the start he actually made MO jump out of his programmed line to clean up WALL-E’s traces and continues jumping happily afterwards too without following any lines. Another example is the typing robot in front of the captain’s cabin, when before entering Wall-e waves at him, after that the robot tries to imitate the gesture. On the way of Wall-e's returning, the robot waves at him back, but all those above information is about Wall-e changing robots' lives, despite him doing the same thing to human beings too when it comes to Mary and John. Mary and John were the first humans in the Axiom to be aware of their surroundings after meeting WALL-E. Just by an accident with WALL-E their lives were completely changed. At the end of the film, WALL-E ends up saving the earth and helping humans restore life on the planet once again after a really long time. Everything goes back to normal as if the humans never left earth. These are some of the keys that let us know that Wall-e was the one, who changed everyone’s lives. Eventually but luckily the captain in the Axiom finally stands up for his rights and fights with the auto because he realizes he must do something before it’s too late when she says," I can’t just sit here and do nothing. That’s all I have ever done. That’s all anyone on this blasted ship has ever done! Nothing. The captain saves the plant and does everything in
WALL-E is a Sci-Fi/Comedy movie produced by Pixar and Directed by Andrew Stanton. The basic plot of the story follows a small robot made of junk who is called WALL-E, whose sole purpose is to clean up trash on the Earth which is an abandoned, garbage littered. As the film plays out he falls in love with another robot who is named EVE. The film takes a turn when EVE takes off into space after finishing her prime directive of acquiring a plant from earth, so WALL-E madly in love follows her to the ends of the universe. These two robats changed the fate of humanity. The Film subtly addresses consumerism, corporatism, nostalgia, environmental problems, waste management, human impact on the environment, and risks to human civilization and the planet
In addition, technology is another tool that the majority of us do use and it is such a huge part of our everyday lives that we often take it for granted. Most of us use technology from the moment we get up till right before we fall asleep. It plays such a dominant role in our lives as to where it feels that our freedoms are almost controlled by technology without us even realizing it. Technology has definitely simplified our daily routines. For example, we use technology to wake us up in the morning with the use of alarms, we use cell phones, cars, email, and we use lightbulbs so that we are able to see when the sun goes down. In other words, “judged by our consumption habits, we are all science junkies, since we are irredeemably addicted to the technologies that science enables” (Jasanoff, 2016). We all know how to work pieces
Last but not least, AR application also results in the technology dependence. When the AR technology become more and more progressive and play an integral role in the real life, the digital elements will be ubiquitous. It means people stick themselves into the digital world with smartphones, tablets, iPads and many other technological devices and become indifferent in the real world. They have an inclination to interact and communicate with other people through a cutting-edged device instead of a face-to-face conversation. More noticeably, when people tend to rely heavily on AR technology, the world will become automated and people in this world can be replaced by machinery. Wall-E, an American computer-animated science fiction film, is one
Imagine a world without technology. Many of you will agree that life without technology would be a nightmare. Technology, in larger ways, is very beneficial for humans. For example, farmers can efficiently cultivate more than 2 acres with a tractor than with labor. Another example is in the medical field, engineers invented a new machine called the Organ care system. This machine can double the amount time a heart can safely remain outside of a human body. This device is very beneficial when transporting a heart from one place to another place. While these technologies can revolutionize the way of our living, there are some technologies, such as electronic devices, that we should limit our use. In general, electronic technologies have numerous benefits with each serving its individual use such as a smartphone for setting reminders, a smart/cell phone for communicating with others over short and long distances, and a computer for researching about a topic and/or purchasing items online. But while these technologies come with many benefits, they also come with drawbacks that some of us can’t cope with. Electronic Technology should be used at necessary times but some people become addict to this technology that changes few of their regular habits and also impacts their life physically and mentally which have various consequences.
Bobina, Katrina. "Wall-e Essay: Technology vs. Humankind." My Life in Just a Few Words. 28 Nov. 2011. https://kreppell.wordpress.com/2011/11/28/wall-e-essay-technology-vs-humankind/. Accessed 20 Mar. 2017. What did we ever do before technology? We should live our own lives without the use of technology but have become so dependent on it, it’s like an addiction. “Wall-e” is a Pixar movie based on humans that have destroyed the planet because they don’t care for the environment. Now, we tend to not be able to go a whole day without a phone or laptop. Like the humans in the movie Wall-e, we are controlled and driven by technology. Don’t get me wrong, technology has help us in many good ways, but it has been a major distraction. When was the last time you went outside and spoke to a neighbor? People do not go out and socialize face to face anymore. Instead, they hook up to Wi-Fi and get on a social media site, email, or text. Faces are always buried into phone screens. If we were ever to have robots do everything for us, cutting grass, picking up trash, etc., and technology were to fail us, people will be too lazy to pick back up where we left off. The reliability of technology and the effects it has on us and our environment has got to come to an end soon or later, or we will no longer have a planet that is fit for the human population to live. I believe that this
Technology has been evolving and changing for decades. Today’s technology has a vast amount of benefits. Or does it? While technology can make life easier and more enjoyable, it comes with many disadvantages. Technology causes people to think differently than in the past, be lazy, have less self-control and not be as social. While technology can be useful, the disadvantages of technology outweigh the benefits and affects today’s society negatively.
In the animated film Wall-E, a robot named Wall-E, designed to clean up Earth after humans covered it in trash, stows away aboard the Axiom, a spaceship that departed Earth 700 years prior to the start of the film. Once aboard the Axiom, Wall-E must convince the humans that the Earth can now sustain and provide habitable conditions for human life once again. A large audience of all ages enjoyed this animated film because of its lovable and fun characters, engaging story, and interesting setting. Even though many families love Wall-E, the movie gives social commentary on several issues, including the over reliance on technology, the consumerist nature of modern societies, and the fear of ever-evolving machines.
