Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the largest retail company in the United States and has been ranked number one on the Fortune 500 Index by Fortune Magazine. Wal-Mart has four parts to their corporate strategy. 1. Dominance in the Retail Market 2. Expansion in the U.S. and International Markets 3. Creation of Positive Brand and Company Recognition 4. Branch Out into New Sectors of Retail While Wal-Mart’s public affairs strategy works well with its corporate strategy. I feel that there are a few recommendations which could make the company work better. Recently, Wal-Mart has been criticized for their opposition to allowing their employees to be unionized. (www.walmartstore.com Retail Division) Wal-Mart was the biggest company in the world while they have been the biggest retailing success ever. A lot of Wal-Mart's success was attributed to the strong and pervasive culture at the company. By being the world’s largest employer, Walmart managing 2.1 million associates internationally. Most of the job candidates willing to travel long distance to get an opportunity to work at Walmat’s new stores. The plus factor to the employees is, most (75%) of the store managers were joined the company as part time workers before they have been advanced to salaried management positions. 80% of the employees including part time workers are entitled to health benefits. While being a multinational company, Walmart is highly diversified company which fact to recognize Walmart by professionals as a good management commitment. The company employs more than 41,000 Asian Associates, 171,000 Hispanic Associates, 257,000 African-American Associates, and 869,000 women Associates.
