Company Overview: Walmart Inc. is identified as “an American multinational retail corporation” (Wiki: Walmart) that conducts itself in a multitude of hyper- markets. This includes discount stores and grocery stores. Walmart headquarters is located in Bentonville, Arkansas and was founded by Sam Walton in 1962; it was then incorporated on October 31, 1969. As of the 2016 year, Walmart has obtained a total of 11,573 stores and clubs located in 28 different countries. While also, operating as Walmart under 63 different brands (Vault: Operations). When looking at the retail market we see that Walmart is one of the leading retail companies in the world “with more than 2 million employees across 9750 retail units under 60 brands in 28 countries” (Vault). With Walmart’s opening and operating almost 5300 stores, including 4570 Walmart’s stores and 655 Sam’s Clubs store”, not including small of brand stores (Vault). Walmart’s international profits comprises 26% of their yearly sales, “ranking them the #1 retailer in Canada and Mexico and some parts of Asia (Where it owns a 95% stakes in Japanese retailer SEIYU)” (VAULT: Operations) At the start of 2016, “Walmart closed nearly 269 stores around the world” (Nassauer, WSJ), this cost the corporation roughly a billion dollars in the closing process.
