For my compare and contrast, I chose Savemart and Lassens Natural Food and Vitamins. Savemart is a large chain grocery store, and I went to their branch in Kingsburg. Lassens is a small grocery store line with only about 8 locations in California, and I went to their branch next to Woodward Park. Kingsburg is a rather middle class town, while the area around Woodward Park is more upper class, so when I was going into each of these stores, I was already expecting a price difference as one of the biggest difference in the two. But the most notable thing is that, it was a battle of quality versus quantity between the two stores. Lassens Natural Food and Vitamins focused more on the quality of products they offered rather than having a plethora
The shopkeeper’s privilege does not protect Walmart from liability under the circumstances of the case. Although Navarro had the right to exercise shopkeeper’s privilege, Navarro had not enough evidence to consider Cockrell as a suspect and it is not reasonable that Navarro asked Cockrell to take off the bandage. According to the merchant protection statutes, merchants can stop, detain, and investigate suspected shoplifters without being held liable for false imprisonment if (1) there are reasonable grounds for the suspicion, (2) suspects are detained for only reasonable time, and (3) investigations are conducted in a reasonable manner (Cheeseman, 2015, P.87). Navarro was not fulfilled for the third condition because the investigation is unreasonable on putting the suspect in a risk of death. Since there was a risk of bacterial infection and it may cause death after the wound area exposed under the air, Navarro should
The auditor must remember that all information collected during the audit needs to be sufficient enough to further the audit process. The information must not only possess the two qualities, relevance and reliability, but it should also test various assertions. For instance, in the audit of Walmart, the auditor should make an attempt to acquire information such as financial statements from the company’s bank, as opposed to acquiring the statements from Walmart’s management. Taking such crucial information from Walmart’s management will put the reliability of that information into question. It is possible that management may manipulate the financial statements, so that they are more appealing to the public and investors. Management may do things
Karen Olsson believes that Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer company, under pays their employees for the amount of work they do daily. They do not offer good working conditions for their employees or enough medical benefits to support themselves and their families. Sebastian Mallaby says that Wal-Mart is not wrong for the way that they run their business; he feels as though Wal-Mart does their consumers a favor by keeping the wages low and offering “low prices” (620). It’s just business! They have to do what it takes to remain the world’s top retailer and continue to, “enrich shareholders, and put rivals out of business” (620). Karen Olsson and Sebastian Mallaby both address the topic of big

For our case assignment, we decided to compare two grocery stores popular in the NYC area: Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. We each visited a different location of each store; Samantha visited the Trader Joe’s in Union Square, Heather visited Trader Joe’s on the Upper West Side, Cathleen visited Whole Foods on the Upper West Side, and Brittany visited Whole Foods in Chelsea. Each store had its own dynamic, but the brand positioning for both stores was consistent.
Charles will assign Ryan (a man) or Chloe (a woman) to a new advertising account for a national makeup line. Charlotte believes that they both are strong candidates, so she decides to present the two of them to the client for a final decision. The client says that because this work relates to makeup, he would prefer working with Chloe instead of Ryan because she is a woman.
Comparative shopping is done in the industry constantly. But the point of the task is to identify strengths and weaknesses of your store’s merchandise mix in comparison to the competitors’. Are you offering the customer something unique in one segment of your business, but not in others? Are you just a poor second in comparison to a strong competitor? Are you under- or over-developed in certain classifications? Are your prices in line with the rest of your store? In relation to your
One of Trader Joe’s biggest advantages is in their target market. They have found the niche that appreciates higher quality foods but is on a tight budget and Trader Joe’s has managed to provide high quality food that is at a great price. So you end up with the individuals who are health conscious and in college or recently graduated who value a great deal. Trader Joe’s has realized that and has capitalized on this fact by opening in locations that are easily accessible to both students
Don Edwards, a recent MBA graduate has been asked to analyze the financial performance of Sears and Wal-Mart. Although Wal-Mart is the industry powerhouse, its 20% return on equity (ROE) lags behind that of Sears’ 22%.
1. What ratios are MOST important in assessing current and predicting future value creation for Sears? For Wal-Mart?
Customers influence Wal-Mart by buying their products. However, Wal-Mart doesn’t provide arm security on the parking lots which has cause to many incidences such as shooting, raping and kidnapping.
Sears and Wal-Mart are both nationwide retailers, but their similarities are only skin deep. Sears started to lose its dominance in the early 1980s. In an attempt to boost the dwindling market share, Sears started to issue proprietary Sears Card, which gave customers payment flexibilities. A new slogan focusing on the "softer side of Sears", and a revised product mix, were created to appeal to the middle-class female shoppers.
If you have noticed, most of the time we would go for a quick errand to buy necessities we would usually go to Wal-Mart, Sam 's Club, King Soopers, Safeway, Walgreens, or Costco. Of course, there are other retail markets out there, but we 're going to focus on the "two leading American retailers, posting more revenue than any of their rivals" (Bowman): Wal-Mart and Costco. For many years, Wal-mart has been growing instantaneously and is the number one retailer in the world for many years. Although, when it comes to employee benefits, Costco 's would be considered a better choice for employees. Costco may be treating employees better when it comes to
The 2 firms had a similar profit margin, major difference exists in COGS and SG&A, while Sears had a higher gross profit margin, high expense (21.17%) is driving the total cost and expense of the two firms to the same level-about 95%.
The first case question asks to compare and contrast shopping experiences at retailers like Nordstrom, Costco, and Whole Foods with shopping experiences at other retailers Sears, Walmart, or Kroger. First of all, retailers like Costco, Nordstrom, and Whole Foods can be insanely expensive. But there is also the option of buying bulk items (Costco), brand names (Nordstrom), and better quality (Whole Foods). I just went grocery shopping for produce and decided to change it up (I usually go to Albertsons or Costco). I went to Walmart to get some spinach, apples, and blueberries. When I got to the produce section I was hesitant because of the quality. Most of the bags of spinach looked wet and slimy, while the apples were soft and slightly bruised.
