Walmart began with goals to provide consumers with goods when and where they wanted them (Frank, n. d). Walmart developed cost structures to allow its company to offer consumers everyday low pricing. The difference between Walmart and other shops is that the former sells its products at cheaper prices than the others. The more products customers buy, the less money they spend. The stores chain usually get its products straight from the wholesalers, which cuts out the middleman. Ultimately, this reduces the cost of the products as there is no middleman to be paid (Walmart Leveraging Assets, 2009). 2. An overview of Walmart’s supply chain management Walmart is the leader in its market because it has efficiently integrated suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, as well as wholesalers in their stores. There are four components in the company’s strategy in the supply chain. These include vendor partnerships, distribution management, cross docking, technology as well as integration. At the supply chain top, the company ensures that it engages suppliers who have the best prices and are able to meet the company’s demand. Strategic partnerships with vendors are established by offering high volume purchases that are long term so that the company gets the lowest available prices. The products are then shipped by the suppliers to where Walmart’s distribution centers are located. There is cross docking and then delivery to the various stores.
