Walter Elias Disney was an American animator, voice actor, entrepreneur, and film producer. He is known as a national cultural icon, and became famous around the world for the American animation industry. Born in Chicago in 1901, Disney quickly developed a love in art and drawing. He moved to Hollywood in the early 1920’s and set up the Disney Brothers studio with his brother Roy O. Disney. He made characters like Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Dumbo, and Bambi. In the 1950’s Disney opened up Disneyland, an amusement park that focuses on his creations. Disney was a heavy smoker throughout his lifetime and died of lung cancer in December 1966. Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a whole new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he pushed on and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney’s way such as unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating, working hard, and persevering to accomplish his dream.

“I tried to think what I had loved knives for, but my mind slipped from the noose of the thought and swung, like a bird, in the center of empty air" (Plath 216) This is an example of personification. Ester, the main character, is thinking about suicide once again. She gives her mind human like qualities that it cannot have. She talks about it as if it is its own person, though it is only part of a person.

Walt Disney was a producer of motion-pictures and television shows. He was a showman and is famously known as a pioneer of animated films and the creator of “The Happiest Place on Earth,” Disneyland. Disney wanted to be successful in life, he wanted the name ‘Walt Disney’ to be remembered, and it will be forever. Disney has achieved many important and exciting accomplishments within his life. He created “full length animated films, short films, live-action features, and television shows” (LeeBron) Disney also introduced theme parks. He created Disneyland in Anaheim, California. He also developed Epcot which stands for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, and Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. Walt Disney was an important figure in the 1920s American History because he made a change to the world with the idea of bringing inanimate objects to life with cartoons and created all new kinds of happiness.

Well all know Walt Disney as the creator of Mickey Mouse and the man who made the first Disney movies and cartoons famous. Walt Disney did so much more than just make Mickey Mouse. He touched hearts and made a positive impact on so many people’s lives. He also made Disney famous around the world. Today there is Disney themed parks in Hong Kong, Paris, and Tokyo. Along with the famous Disney Land in California and the famous Disney World in Florida.

Walt Disney is extremely known for being a film producer and popular showman. He was very recognizing for being an innovator in animation and theme park design. Disney was a visionary in terms of cartoons. Disney views and visions came from his persistence for the future. Walt Disney strives upon building Disney’s to have core strengths in three areas of entertainment and recreation, motion pictures and videos. Walt created his first animated character, Mickey Mouse.

As a matter of fact, Walt Disney had a tremendous influence on mass media! He influenced the media to expand their business deals and resources. The release of his very successful movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs led the film to become the most successful motion picture! “The film became the most successful motion picture in 1938 and earned over $8 million on its initial release.” (“Walt Disney”) Likewise, the release of the film encouraged the media to use different special effects and record better frames. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first American film to be made in color, so it influenced the media to use the Technicolor process for their upcoming movies. “Snow White, the first animated feature in America made in Technicolor, was released in February 1938…” (“Walt Disney”) In the movie there is also sound. The sound, yet again caused the sensation to make a soundtrack.

What Disney was most known for were his creations. While he was younger, he drew art in the newspapers (JustDisney). Two other companies he made were Iwerks and Laugh-O-grams (Michel Cole). Two of his best animated characters were Oswald the Lucky rabbit and Mickey Mouse (Wiki). The first animation Mickey Mouse was put in was called SteamBoat Willie which was a huge success (bio.com). One of Disney’s most successful films was Snow white and the Seven Dwarfs (Michael Cole). From 1954 to 2002 there was a show made by Disney which was called Wonderful World of Color (Wiki). Walt Disney has inspired millions of people across the globe through his success, films and dreams. His bold legacy has lived on past his grave and millions of people have and continue to find joy in his magical works, but how many know his story and how his great legacy came to be?
