The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico. In fact the United States didn’t even start the war against Mexico. In 1833, Santa Anna was elected president of Mexico. He fought in two major wars, the Mexican American War and the Texas War for Independence also called the Texas Revolution. General Santa Anna lost both wars. The consequences Mexico had to pay was giving Texas its independence which gave the Texans and Tejanos the large chunk of land which is now modern day Texas. The other huge piece of land Mexico had to give up was The Mexican Cession which included California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, approximately half of New Mexico, and small sections of Colorado and Wyoming.
According to multiple sources, all of America’s
First reason of why America was not justified in going to war with Mexico because was because of America's invasion. “ the troops commanded by General Zachary Taylor arrived at the Rio Grande across from the city of Matamoros, increasing the possibility of a confrontation”. In other word this this evidence shows that Americans were not justified in going to war with Mexico because it was an invasion crossing the mexican border and claiming land without any approval from the mexican government . “...Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon
America was justified in going to war as Mexico invaded the country,American troops were killed by the Mexicans, and Mexico decided to strike first. When Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and stated that the Rio Grande was the border boundary. However in 1846,Mexican forces decided to cross the border line as it was known as an invasion against the US.On Document B President Polk stated, “The Congress of Texas,by its act of December 19,1836, had declared the Rio del Norte to be the boundary of that Republic.”(Doc B)On April 24th,1846,an American force of 70 men were dispatched to camp north of the Rio Grande. However,a larger Mexican force, decided to attack the American force where 16 American soldiers were killed. On Document
In 1840, the first baseball diamond was laid out in Cooperstown, NY, less than ten years later, the Mexican War began. The Mexican War took place during 1846 - 1848. It happened in Texas when Mexican troops fired at trespassing American troops. Events leading to the war are the Texas Revolution and the Texas and American treaty. So the question is, was the United States justified to go to war with Mexico. The United States was not justified to go to war with Mexico. They maybe could have been justified, but they weren’t. The United states was not justified to go to war with Mexico because they stole Texas from Mexico, they broke Mexican law, and they trespassed on their land.
If you looked at a map of North America in the 1820's the countries would look a lot different. Mexico was as large as the United States, stretching from Guatemala in the south to Oregon in the north. The US was much smaller, but not for long. The Mexican War, or the "U.S. Invasion" (according to the Mexicans) started in 1846 and ended in 1848. In that short time the US gained a large chunk of territory including Texas and California and Mexico lost more than half of their land. Many Americans and Mexicans died fighting in the war but was this war justified ? I think that the Mexican war was not justified but provoked by the United States. The reasons why I think this is that Americans living in Texas violated the rules that Mexico had
One reason that the Mexican-American war was not justified is that the Americans took land from Mexico. The annexation of Texas is an example of America taking land, stated in Document C. That was very wrong of the U.S to do at the time due to security and legal reasons for Mexico. Then Americans tried to take more land from Mexico by sending troops to near the Rio Grande River. As a security measure, the Mexicans decided to attack the American soldiers, killing 16 of the Americans. This shows that Americans were not justified for going to war with Mexico because Americans decided to send soldiers to invade the undisputed part of land between Texas and Mexico.
America Was Not Justified in Going to War With Mexico Imperialism is a policy that extends a country’s influence and power through diplomacy or military force, as seen in the Mexican-American war. In 1821 Mexico gained independence from Spain, at this time the United States and Mexico were about the same size. Throughout the 1830s and 1840s, Mexico had conflicts with Native American groups, so in an effort to increase their population Mexico welcomed United States settlers which led to border disputes. The settlers came to Texas, and due to the settlers being pro-slavery while Mexico was a slave-free country, Texans revolted and gained their independence in 1836. After 10 years of independence, Texas wanted to join the United States, and after
They have taken the land away from the people of the United States, oh wait that’s not right. Of course people know about the Mexican- American War, but people haven’t heard both sides of the story. This conflict happened in the 1840’s starting with Americans migrating to the west. Mexico shouldn’t have allowed us to move into their territory because the people of the United Sates stole land that belonged to Mexico. When the two countries started to argue over the land, it would eventually lead to war. The United States was not vindicated in going to war with Mexico because, it was Mexico’s land, slavery, and border disputes.
I believe the Mexican War was unjustified because the U.S. were not on Mexican Territory and the Mexican Army had fired the first shot. The U.S. military was on the disputed border the Rio Grande and did not engage. The U.S. were on the Rio Grande which was the river that was the disputed territory decided upon Texas and the U.S. The people of Mexico wanted the border to be the Nueces River but had never been agreed upon by the U.S. so in the Mexican Militarys minds they thought this was an attack on their country because it had never been agreed by them that the border was the Rio Grande River this had probably caused them to fire first thinking they were being provoked.
The Mexican-American War was a huge turning point for the future United States. The Mexican-American War was about United States wanting to fulfill their manifest destiny by having their land stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean. So was it justified to take Mexico lands? The United states was justified in going to war with Mexico because we had rights and We would gain more land. Mexico might have been ‘dumb and distracted’, but they still should have some land for themselves.
The Mexican-American War was incorrectly named; it was not simply Americans vs Mexicans, but a war between opinions. America’s war with Mexico: a war for land, for the sake of Manifest Destiny, or perhaps, a war to be started and ended in victory by… a thief. This war was supported and criticized by Americans and Mexicans alike. Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was God’s Plan to for America to expand to the Pacific Ocean, and a very controversial belief, at that. Before this war of opinions, the US already created a tense relationship with its neighbor by providing aid to the Texas Rebellion, and later annexing Texas. The United States was not Justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas was signed over, with no extra land, America was obviously itching to go to war, and settlers agreed to become Mexican citizens in the first place
Those that see the war as justified, will argue that the U.S and Mexico war was justified. However, it was unjustifiable because of all the actions Mexico pulled like, coming to their land, shedding the blood of the Americans on to their soil, etc. Also, they discouraged many people because with how they treated the U.S, which was something they did not
There are many reasons that justified the war with Mexico and make us believe that it was a good idea to start with this war. First, one of the wishes of Polk was his ambition to make California and New Mexico, which in that time was property of
How the United States stretched from sea to shining sea by being fair and unfair sometimes. The Mexican war started on April 25, 1846 when Captain Seth Thornton of the United States Army and his 70 sailors were attacked by greater Mexican force. This happened in the disputed territory north of the Rio grande, reports say that 16 Americans were killed and the number of Mexican soldiers that were killed it unknown. Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because of manifest destiny, border distributes, and annexation of Texas.
The Mexican War was viewed as one of the most controversial wars in United States history. Originating from the annexation of Texas, or the lack thereof in Mexico’s eyes, the final spark to cause the war was an incident between soldiers of both countries in disputed land. Both Mexico and the US claimed to have been provoked by the other, and that they were only protecting their country. Many US citizens argued the war, as it appeared President Polk was using it for reasons other than self defense. By going to war with Mexico, the US faced the possibility of gaining much more of Mexico’s land and extending slavery in the country. The United States' decision to go to war with Mexico was based on a desire to extend slavery, to gain land they had
The United States of America has been through many wars, wars concerning many things such as land oil, pride and respect. However, when the United States went to war with Mexico, it was planned over greed. The Mexican- American war was a war provoked by the United States, in efforts to expand the coasts of the country. Mexico was a small under privileged country who had previously to the war had already lost part of their country (Texas). Needless to say this war was cut throat and violent, it was however one of the smartest business decisions America has ever made.
