War of the Worlds Chapter One Despite its location, Dot’s Donut Shop was about to get famous. I mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely, we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth-changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. The Roswell crash in 1947 was the first contact we had with any species not from Earth. Although the creature didn’t survive long enough to greet us, it seems it was alive long enough to send a distress signal, calling the rest of its friends. We scavenged what we could from the wreckage, using it to create new technologies that advanced our world by a couple hundred years. What would have taken us 100 …show more content…
As I was checking out in the backroom of Dot’s Donut Shop, I heard a massive explosion rock the building. I stumbled back into the main room, but it was empty. It seems the two customers and one other worker left in a rush. I burst through the glass doors so hard that I almost fell down. I ran left of the entrance to investigate the explosion. I figured a gas-line had burst, or a car had malfunctioned and crashed. I certainly didn’t expect to see something I had seen in a museum. Honestly, what I saw was one of the least likely things someone in this day and age would

World War II started with the invasion of Poland by Germany in 1939 (Beinart, 2009). It was not until two years after the beginning of World War II that the United States entered the war in 1941. The president at the time was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, also known as FDR (Thompson, 2010). Roosevelt became the thirty-second president of the united stated and was president for three terms from 1933-1945 (Thompson, 2010). After his first presidential election, Roosevelt promised a new deal for the American people. At this time Americas was under the Great Depression (Thompson, 2010). During World War II, political cartoons were widely used as propaganda techniques and persuasive tactics. In America, political cartoons were merely used to mobilize populations for war, form hatred for the enemies and win support of American people and allied forces. The U.S government looked to Walt Disney as the leading studio to do just the job. Disney’s propaganda included Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Pluto and more. Through Disney’s involvement in production of propaganda films there was an increase of support of the war.
In spite of the Martians opening power, their downfall comes almost as quickly as they take control but it is not due to the British fighting back. The British fought as best they could, nonetheless “in the end the only thing that stops the invaders is yet a force of nature” (Wager 3). Wells is able to comment symbolically on how mankind is best suited for their own land, not the land of others, through the death of the Martians, who are “slain by the putrefactive and disease bacteria against which their systems were unprepared” (Wells 189). New lands means new diseases that one’s body has never been exposed too, which can lead to epidemic in the invading community. The tripods that caused immense devastation were now “harmless tripod towers of shinning

The War of the Different Worlds was long, and gory. Mainly fought underground, both sides were at a deadlock for centuries. He then led the humans into major victories, and eventually annihilated the aliens. Thus the war ended, with Ethan and the humans being

Indianapolis, October 30th 1938, a woman ran down the main aisle of an Episcopal church crying,“ The world is coming to an end!” People gathered hunting gear, hid in their cellars and called police stations and the national guard as panic swept across the nation. The cause of this panic, “War of the World's” a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion that was aired on the CBS radio show, “The Mercury Theatre on Air.” Many of those who tuned in that night missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the show, so they believed that the events unfolding on the radio play were true. “War of the Worlds” described a spaceship crashing in New Jersey and tentacled aliens coming out of it with war machines and heat rays. Terrified citizens in New Jersey who heard the broadcast packed their belongings and fled, jamming the highways in attempts to get far away from the crash site.
