Brutus, an Honorable Man Can a killer be an honorable man? What makes someone considered honorable? Honorable is an adjective, defined as “bringing or worthy of honor”. Marcus Brutus’s actions, he believed, were for the betterment of Rome. Brutus is an honorable man in that he acted upon his beliefs and motivations were pure, others considered Brutus to be honorable, and Brutus himself values honor to be the most important principle. First, many might dispute the idea that Brutus was an honorable man because he killed his friend Caesar, but this is wrong because Brutus states that his role in Caesar’s murder was to help Rome and not for himself. Brutus backs this statement when he says, “If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against
He's not honorable because of what he did. It doesn't make someone honorable for disliking someone for having power. Trying to have one of his friends kill Caesar is also not an excuse for being honorable. If you want to be honorable you have to most likely be a good person. In my last paragraph I explained what cassius did that makes him not honorable. Cassius is rude he has Brutus plot in to killing Caesar for him. Cassius lies to Brutus about
In addition, when an honorable man sometimes makes a decision that turns out to be inconsistent with his values, he must make drastic decisions in order to make up for it. A while after Caesar is killed, Brutus starts to realize that maybe he did not do the honorable thing in killing Caesar. Brutus comes to this conclusion when he is arguing with Cassius and says,
The least thing that was honorable in Julius and Caesar is Brutus killing because he took someone death like trash. He got to look at the man that he killed and just stabbed him and didn’t worry about anything. Everything was going to be okay and no one would care. That he would die and not tell anyone goodbye.
Many people didn’t know the exact reason why the conspirators had killed Caesar. The people wasn’t really concerned about why or who did it. Cassius had influenced Brutus to be apart of it. Brutus did it for Rome but Cassius did it because he was jealous. He is not honorable because honorable men do not only think about themselves, they think about everyone else too.
An honorable man has fairness and integrity in his actions, most fake honorability, only a select few have it. An honorable man wouldn’t kill another out of jealously. In the play The Tragedy Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar the leader of Rome, is assassinated by a group of conspirators. These conspirators are a group made up of the people in the senate, had their power taken away from the last dictator. Foolishly they take Ceasar as another dictator and tried to fix the problem before it even happened. However, they were wrong about poor Caesar, he was a honorable man that didn’t deserve to die because he was good to the citizens of Rome, he wasn’t in it for the power, and he supported them when needed.
”(V.V. 68-69) . These two reasons prove that not only would Brutus do what needed to be done for Rome, but was even noted for being Honorable by his enemy. I share this similar characteristic with Brutus as we are both honorable. I am willing to make the hard decisions that most people don’t want to make. Just like how Brutus had to kill his friend for the betterment of the Roman people.
Brutus: A Patriotic Assassin The mystery of whether or not Brutus was a betrayer or a patriot has been hotly debated since the play’s debut. Brutus is, however, a patriot because of his integrity of character, his love of Rome, and his conformity to the very definition of being a patriot. There are many reasons the debaters of this debacle have claimed Brutus to be a betrayer. One of the most common reasons is Brutus used honor to rationalize jealousy and the subsequent demise of Caesar. This claim is incorrect because of the evidence of Brutus’ integrity.
In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, one of the most complex characters that is introduced in the play is Marcus Brutus. Brutus is the most complex character in the play because even though he is proud of his reputation for nobleness and honor, he is also often naïve and hypocritical about his actions. When Brutus was killed by Strato in V.v., Antony mentions how Brutus “was a man” and the noblest out of all the Romans. However, Antony’s statement is disagreeable because in some ways, because Brutus (at times) is not noble at all. Antony doesn’t say he was an honorable man, he just calls him a regular man. If Antony just calls him just a man, then that could mean he was referring to all of mankind. Humans, like everyone else, make mistakes and are not perfect. Brutus fits perfectly into that description because he has made a ton of mistakes that reflect on the book’s outcome and history.
In my opinion being Brutus bestfriend, I honestly would say that he is one of the most Honorable human beings. I believe that because Brutus is a hero, a loyal person, and he is well respected. To start off , Brutus is honorable because he is a hero. He once said, “ Set honour i one eye and death i’ th’ other
When Shakespear wrote the play “The tragedy of Julius Caesar ” he wrote about a lot of honorable and ambitous men. I will be expressing my feelings about how I believe that Mark Antony is a very honorable men, and I believe Brutus is a very corrupt man.
So when we got older, we still kept in touch with each other through letters. Brutus is a honorable man because he is respected, considerate, and wise. Brutus was a honorable man because he was a respected man. Casca said ,“Indeed, he is not fit” (67) when Brutus said that Cicero shouldn’t join them.
Brutus wanting to be very honorable is part of his tragic flaw. He will do crazy stuff just be honorable. While talking with Cassius about why he is not himself, Brutus said “For it let the gods so speed me as I love the name of honor than I fear the name of death” (I.II. 91-92). This quote shows that being honorable is a very big thing for Brutus since he would rather die with honor than die without honor. After talking with Lucius Brutus says, “It must be by his death, and for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him but
One of Brutus’ tragic flaws is his concern for the general good of Rome. Brutus’ flaw leads him to kill Caesar to protect Rome from a tyrant. Brutus knows he should not have to kill his friend for fear of him becoming overbearing. One night, while Brutus is in his garden, he is debating his love for Caesar and his concern for the good of Rome. He feels he should not kill his friend, but the good of Rome almost demands this horrid act. Brutus argues with
Brutus believes nothing should be done without honor, which he illustrates by killing Caesar publicly. Some would say killing for political reasons, is more honorable than killing someone for pure revenge. He
Many people can agree that committing murder isn’t an honorable thing to do. The thought of killing Caesar eats Brutus up both consciously and subconsciously. Brutus said “From the time you decide to do something to the moment you actually do it, everything feels unreal, like a horrid dream” (II, i, 60-66). The realization of killing his best friend creates some turmoil inside Brutus. Even though Brutus claims he is still being honorable while he is in the conspiracy, his true underlying thoughts prove otherwise.
