Bloodshed, a Sign of Justification?
“Oh, no. It costs a lot more than your life. To murder innocent people?" says Peeta. "It costs everything you are.” (Collins 23). Murder is a very engrossing, interesting genre amongst many readers. That chill and shiver that goes down a someone’s back, as he or she reads about the blood-thirsty stalker. Or when the young little, harmless girl opens the door and sees something. But not all murder stories are not the same; this is shown clearly in the “The Most Dangerous Game”, written by Richard Connell. The author tells a story about a well-known hunter who gets shipwrecked, but who is enjoying the island. But that all turns upside down, when he experiences the true meaning of having fear when his life is at stake. Rainsford is ultimately justified in his killing of General Zaroff because he has saved the lives of many. …show more content…

Sanger Rainsford, shows this very clearly as he takes the life of General Zaroff. He showed how cruel and barbaric General Zaroff really was. Before Rainsford thought he had found a fellow hunter until ‘“ Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.”’ (63). Any normal person wouldn’t kill humans for just the thrill of it, he or she would have a purpose. But that is not who Zaroff is. He wants an animal that can reason and challenge by hunting, and the only animal eligible for that would be a human. Zaroff is a savage sadist who eyes twinkle when the hear the words murder and torture. But thanks to Rainsford, people don’t have to be scared to Ship - Trap Island.
